Just finalising my FL SB BE S3 spec before it’s built in WK50. Managed to get everything I wanted under 40K and have enough for either folding mirrors ( which I’ve had on previous 2 S3’s - can’t remember if my first one had it ) or high beam assist which I kinda forgot to spec last time as it’s only £150 it seemed worth it.

If I was going over by a couple of grand I’d sod the premium car tax but considering I’ve got everything I wanted it just seems like a waste to do it now.

Mirrors 100%.

I use them when I'm across the car park and think "S*** did I lock the car?", if I can see they are folded in I know I have :) I've even been inside work and thought it, so I've phoned one of the lads to check they are folded in on his way in lol.

Nice one sided response there, good to hear everyone’s comments.

My car is always parked in a garage and most of the time it’s on clients private car parks.

I did read one post on here that someone didn’t like folding mirrors as he’s rather get his mirrors knocked then the car body.

Maybe I should have titled should I add any of these

Mirrors for me as well.

I think you only get, passenger mirror dip on reverse, with folding mirrors, which I would miss.

Mirrors all day long.
I have both and high beam assist is definitely not worth it. That’s on my pfl tho.

I have High Beam assist on A4. Have Folding mirror too. HBA works but if I had to choose it would be folding mirrors every time.

Folding Mirrors all day long... its a relativeky cheap option and one you will kick yourself if not ticked. It can be retrofitted relatively easy but for the price new its got to be on this list!, as its way more expensive to do it later. Personally its a final reminder the car is locked for me, so I love it for that alone. But useful if you ever find yourself with a larger vehicle coming towards you in a tight lane ,,, quick fold of the mirrors really can make a massive difference !

High Beam assist although good, is not perfect and although quick to turn off not always that quick to turn back on. I aso find that at times it can get fooled. Its a great gimmick and useful but...Most of the time I end up over riding it and just using manual high beam. Could defo live without it.

Mirrors without doubt would get my vote !

Sorry, but I have always ticked the folding mirror option.

That's fine so long as you haven't then caught the button and unlocked it as they stay folded in until you turn the ignition on :weary:

I always check out the bedroom window and make sure the little red light is flashing lol

Oh and @The Challinor deffo folding mirrors.

Mirrors every single time mate esp sitting in traffic and you see a wobbly motorbike coming up, quick flick of the switch and dinged mirror avoided! :)

I’ve always had them, maybe I use them more then I realise. I do usually use them to see if it’s locked when out and about.

On my current S3 I had:

Door mirrors – electrically adjustable, folding and heated. Also includes an automatic kerb view dipping function on reverse.

But at the time there was also the below which I think now is the only option on the FL.
Door mirrors – auto-dimming on the driver’s side, electrically adjustable, folding and heated. Also includes an automatic kerb view dipping function on the passenger side when reverse gear is selected.

On a side note going into Audi tomorrow as the mirror is not auto dipping anymore despite me trying a few times to program it.

Haha I’ve not even tried the LED ones yet...
Try the Matrix lights. I have them on my S3 and I live in a rural area and at night it’s like driving in daylight you can see for hundreds of metres.

Providing nobody opens a door in a minute or two it should automatically lock again :)

Waiting for delivery in Dec. I got it to within about £40 of the £40k limit
SB STronic
Daytona
Tech Pack
Matrix LED
Super Sport Seats
Red Calipers
Folding heated door mirrors
20/40/60 rear seat

I did want the advanced Key but couldn’t justify the tax increase

Never tried them to be honest but your making them sound pretty damn good

Not had or tried the Audi Matrix lights but had Adaptive LEDs on last two BMW (Same thing*) and High Beam assist on previous cars. The adaptive is night and day better than HBA, you just put the adaptive into HB and it does all the work for you.

I've ordered Matrix on mine.

* I understand the Audi version is superior to the BMW.

True

How much better are the LED’s over the Xenon’s as never had a issue with them to be fair.
They have a sharper light and the beam fires that bit further, they are also around 6000k closer to a blue white light, xenon lights are around 4800k giving off a white light

I reckon I’d be happy with them as they sound like a decent upgrade over what I’ve had now.

You can really only notice the difference if you've driven the same car with both technologies (Xenons and LED). They are not a world apart in my opinion, it's mostly for marketing purposes and I could not justify the cost of Matrix LED being 900 GBP extra.

I would go for folding mirrors, plus you get the dip mirror on reverse as a bonus. I have 2017 LED headlights and they are excellent, but if, I lived in the country and much of my driving was at night. I would take a serious look at the Matrix option.

I'm obviously on Xenons too at the moment. From what I've heard the first iteration of the LED headlights on the PFL were rather lacklustre and measurements showed the Xenons actually put out better light.

The FL has totally re-engineered lights and only the base model has Xenons now, with all others getting LEDs. I believe they're much better now.

That makes sense as my mate Scott had a early 8V S3 with LED lights and I didn’t notice much difference in carpark tests etc. Glad to hear they have improved.

Seems to me a lot has been done on the facelift this time around.

The LEDs on the PFL were an afterthought and not very good. People bought them because they looked funky and were the first lights on the A3 to use the DRL strips as indicators which did look cool.

I presume LEDs will be more reliable too. Whilst Xenons do last a long time, they can blow or yellow with age and replacement bulbs aren't cheap. LEDs should last pretty much forever.

Yer they did look cool, I’ve not looked into the LED’s on the FL at all to be honest.

Think I should go and download the brochure

i have both folding mirrors and high beam assist ( with xenons). tbh the high beam was a bit of an afterthought.
i use the folding mirrors much more often, and in hind sight i could have saved by not speccing the high beam assist.
v happy with xenons @ night, although i have not seen the matrix lights to compare.
