Apologies if this has been asked before but I have just picked up my new A4 avant s line which replaced my b8.5 and I was able to deactivate the auto lock function in that car but I can't find the ability to do this in my new car through the vehicle settings menu and I was wondering if anyone has deactivated it?

Out of interest, why would you want to deactivate it?

As I understand, it isn't an option in MMI and has to be coded using VCDS.

Agree with @Colh why disable it? I know of someone whose car was saved from a car-jacking because of this feature and sometimes I even go as far as locking the car myself as soon as I get in - i.e. if I want to ring someone on my phone before I set off.

For me it is a good safety/security feature.

I feel we should be able to disable it and the 'merits' of auto locking are a matter of opinion..

I can't think of one reason why I wouldn't want auto locking enabled. I agree with your point about being able to have the option to disable it though

True. and that was why I was asking.

Not sure why it is no longer a user option - it shouldn't be buried in the coding.

I wasn't trying to start anything.

Just curious as to why I'd want to disable it. I can see the advantage of locking the doors when on the move but don't know the benefits of stopping that from happening.

It's annoying when I get out of the car to get my son out of his car seat and I haven't pressed the unlock button and his door won't open from the outside and I have to go back to my door to press the button

That's not right, on my b8.5 all the doors unlocked when the drivers door was opened. On my mk6 golf there is an option for both auto lock and auto unlock as separate boxes to tick - can't remember if it was like that on the b8.5.

It is strange that the b9 removed the option completely.

I understand your feelings on this subject and have asked the same question myself on other forums. On my previous A4 B8 I was able to deactivate the auto lock feature quite easily though the MMI but for the life of me I can't find this function on the latest model. I know it's a safety feature but it can be quite annoying when picking someone up and they're tugging on the door handle trying to get in.

That sounds like a fault to me
