59 plate A3 rear wiper malfunction.

My rear wiper is malfunctioning. Even with the steering column switch in the off position it still operates randomly. Occasionally it stops before returning to its rest position.
On this model, it operates one wipe on selection of reverse gear.
Wondering if the gearbox switch is faulty.....
Any other suggestions?
Keen to avoid a big bill!

It's a well known fault. The window washer runs through the rear wiper motor and leaks causing random working. Only option is a replacement wiper motor-£55 from eBay. Easy to swap-all answers here....

For what it's worth - I had mine replaced this week by Audi under extended warranty but it's a straight forward DIY job. You may need a wiper-puller or hacksaw for the wiper blade.

2nd that.
I tried taking the motor apart and cleaning it up, worked for a week and went again, chuck a new motor in, hardest part is getting the trim off, its a stubborn sod.
