Probably been done to death this subject apologies, but I was wondering what everyone is getting MPG wise? I'm finding it a hard pill to swallow having to keep fuelling the old girl, and I used to own a tuned Mazda RX 7 so I know what a thirsty car is. I have been testing it with Super Unleaded and then with normal 95 to see if it changes, seems to be slightly better with Super but essentially £20 gets me roughly 80 miles distance, this is a mix of motorway and city driving. This equates to about 20mpg and the MMI is showing around 24mpg. I know my car is a quattro and S Tronic but getting 80 miles to 20quid seems a bit silly, and to he only hitting 20mpg with mixed driving and 25mpg on mainly motorway. I have no fault codes come up, have had the latest oil separator/Pcv valve done. Tyre pressures are all ok, alignment is good. New brakes all round. Can't work out why a modern direct injection 2.0 litre turbo petrol is so bad on fuel??

Any similar horror stories??

I have the same engine in my S1 and with mixed driving (not F1 style) I can get 36mpg, on motorways it goes to 40mpg and if I drive her like she is supposed to be driven around 25mpg.

I tend to fill the car completely each time with Shell V Power Nitro+ and then drive it to empty, that way I can work out the gallons used and divide those into the miles driven to get my actual mpg. That said the MMI is pretty much bang on for me...

I'm currently getting 18-26mpg just local town driving and motorway 30-35mpg!

@the_muzza - My previous A4 was a B8 2.0 TFSI quattro also. However mine had a 6 speed manual GB
http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/thread...fsi-quattro-s-line-saloon-sold-oct-14.225569/
I regularly hit the low 30's mpg & mid 30's on a long run.
My car seemed to run better and was more economical on Shell V-Power

The economy on your A4 is worse than on my S4, which as you know has a 3litre V6 supercharged engine mated too a s-tronic GB
To be fair I am running the S4 on 'standard' Shell fuel

Mines a 2009 2.0tfsi A5 with a brand new engine.
Just did a trip today of 250 miles that took the mileage upto the magic 1000 mile mark.
I have ran this engine in gently, never exceeding 3k rpm, and I can confirm on motorway runs I peak at 38mpg, around the doors drops off to 24mpg. (this is on 20'' rims tho)
Will see what it's like after a service in the next few weeks, but I am not hopeful of any economy improvements at all tbh, as my lead foot shall be clearing a few cob webs lol.
P. S. It's only fed on v power if that makes any difference.
I think if we require economy, then Nissan do a leaf...
Just sayin

Like SteG88 my B8.5 TFSI quattro I do similar to journeys and returning 18mpg round town and 35mpg on longer runs.

I was quite surprised by this for comparison with my VXR I was getting 300 to 330 miles out of a tank which was 52 litres. TFSI has a 63 litre tank however typically getting between 250 to 330 miles per tank. Both using VPower + so down on performance and mpg but have quattro.

quattro they say you loose about 6mpg.

That is quite shocking for a 2.0t - I get more out of my 3.2 V6! Something isn't quite right there.

Don't baby a new engine - on modern engines you have to give it some beans to bed in. One of the worst things you can do is be gentle - you are setting yourself up for poor MPG in the future. Perhaps this is why the others are having issues with poor MPG above!

Can't comment as I'm the 2nd owner, surely the car would be achieving slightly higher mpg figures? 18500 miles on car.
Everything seems to running nicely with the car to! Plus no issues with the dreaded "oil consumption' keeping fingers crossed everyday

My previous A4 was the same as yours and I would get 25mpg to 33mpg depending on driving style etc, this was with a stage 1 revo remap. I now have an S4 with stage 1+ revo and get the same mpg. Both run on momentum or she'll Nitro + So happy to get same mpg with the 3.0 v6 supercharged!!!

I've got a 2.0 tfsi Quattro a3 too and I'm getting around 80 miles out of £20... It is harsh but I don't really drive that your average gran either :/

Sounds like my mpg is towards the lower end of the average. Appreciate everyone's replies thanks for taking the time. Not sure what to check now, I'm guessing lambdas would throw a fault code if they were duff, possibly the thermostat I guess but it doesn't have any problems with heating up etc. Might get an alignment check done again to see if that helps. Only thing I can think of really.

I had a new thermostat, pcv, DV and it hasn't improved anything mate! Mine is sat at 280bhp with a decat too tho, nothing helped

Well if your alignment is well out then yes it will affect rolling resistance of the car and in turn the fuel economy. Hadnt thought about DV, but dont have any noise like that. Where is it located on these engines?

You will probably hear it if the DV has split, good thing to check though, it's at the back of the engine on the turbo, a lot easier to access of you take the front right wheel off, I'm just accepting the 18mpg now I think must be my clumsy right foot I guess

Cambaines, my engine is longitudinally mounted so the turbo is to the left as you look in the engine bay. I'll have a look see

Wow. My 3.0 tdi quatro does 20-25 mpg urban and 40-50 on a long run . I meant to upgrade for 2.0 but may rethink stuff...

They will but i never expected to have 3.0 v6 do better mpg then 2.0

Did a steady 80 mile round trip last nite, motorway n country roads n averaged 34mpg. Currently deciding whether to go for Audi A3 as this big A4 doesn't get drove. Do 3/4000 miles a year.... decisions, decisions

I thought that Tesla did a economic car as well?

Actually, my venture into Audi A4 life started by me looking at A4 3.2V6 quattro 6MT, that scared me enough for me to start looking into getting an S4!

Sounds similar to mine; 65 plate 2.0TFSI quattro S-Tronic, consistently get 300 miles per tank which works out at a tad over 22mpg.

How was the TFSI with stage one? Was it a B8.5?

Bit of an update from me regarding this. Noticed a fair bit of wheel wobble at 70-80mph, Audi dealer fitted brand new tyres when i bought it, so I didn't trust them to have done a proper job of it, so took it to get a full hunter laser alignment and had all the wheels off and had them take all the old balancing weights off and rebalance them. The right rear toe was pretty far out in the alignment as were a both the fronts but only about 1 degree. The chap at the Kwik fit plus did a great job of it all and after having the wheels rebalanced it's like a different car. It feels like I am gliding on a magic carpet at 80mph now. Like glass it's so smooth. This is how my A4 should have felt but the last 1600 miles I have been suffering in ignorance. I was hitting 36mpg on a run down the A3, and my 20quid is getting me close to 90 miles and 5 hours of mixed driving instead of 80miles and 4 hours. It's like a different car.

So anyone that's got wheel wobble or uneven tire wear or just fancies smoothing the ride out a bit I would definitely recommend an alignment check and/or wheel balance.

Good news, you're also the first person I've seen recommend Kwik Fit too :)

The one near me got some good reviews so thought I would give it a go. The lad that did it took great care with my car used a breaker bar and not impact gun and torque wrench to do it all back up I sat and watched him.

I have been to a number of so called "specialists" in my time and been appauled, I'm sure they survive on reputation alone.

It cost me £116 all in for the four wheel alignment and to have all the wheels off and rebalanced. If your local kwikfit has good reviews then there is no need for brand snobbery at all and you should give them a go.

They werent the closest Kwikfit to me, as that one had a few bad reviews, so went to the next nearest after that.

Am averging 30.3 mpg according to the DIS. I get about 360 miles from a tank brim to brim usually fill up with 62 lites (I guess theres 4 litres in the reserve) thats with a mixture of commuting cruising at 75 (ish officer), caning it and driving at a steady 60-65 a few days a week when trying to get my 1 year old to sleep. Also have Revo map.

In the 5k miles that I owned my 2009 A4 TFSi Quattro S-Tronic with Stage 1 Revo map, my average according to Fuelly was 24.5.

The worst mpg was 19.3 (238 miles on a tank) and best 34.7 (400 miles on a tank).

80 miles on £20 around town was bout the same for me too.

Thanks mancdan for the reply. Seems thats what I should be expecting then. Very similar to mine.

My car is not a Quattro but a 2009 FWD 2.0TFSI B8 manual. Recently I filled the tank with Shell V power before driving from North Wales to Scotland via Yorkshire. The low fuel warning light came on after travelling 490 miles and I refilled on 510 miles which isn’t bad for a heavy car. Admittedly I was driving like Miss Daisy between 60 and 70mph with the odd burst past 70!!!

So over the past six months of ownership I have tried everything to increase the fuel economy. I did a trip from South London to the Peak District a couple of days ago and sat at 55mph for 130 odd miles and to my absolute amazement.
. 20170312 164527

44.1mpg!!!

Couldn't believe it. That was 2 adults and 2 kids and boot full of luggage. I have worked out that as soon as you go above 70mph the fuel economy plummets. Things I have done to the car mechanically are;

New spark plugs
New R8 red coil packs
Cleaned AFM
Full wheel alignment.

Plugs and packs made a noticeable difference. 44.1mpg might seem terrible to TDI owners but I was getting around 20mpg before.

Hope this helps!

£25 V power = 100 miles
Mixed driving mainly short journeys
Oh well never mind

Cue the soot chuckers with there 100000mpg stories lol

That's good going. Is that using Vpower/BPultimate? MPG appears to drop if you drive on motorway at 50mph in 7th gear as the revs must just be to low.

Hi, thought I'd follow up with my recent observations in my new b8 2.0 tfsi , avant , quattro , S-tronic . Only had it for 2 weeks and seem to be getting lower mpg than my B7 2.0tsfi avant quattro (manual)
Though in town city it's better - generally b8 is 18-25 vs 18-20 in b7.
But on motorways it seems much worse! I'm getting 32 cruising at 75 when I could easily 37-40 out of my B7 .
Go figure .. as I am In 7th Gear and driving my usual pretty smooth way - anticipating traffic and little braking with occasional squirts / 6 th gear to overtake.

TBH I'd thought I'd be at least near the stated 40mpg in a much newer car than my old b7....

But I do notice the b8 turbo is a lot more keen and earlier to kick in , but still cruising at 75 should be really economical and not using the turbo...

The only time I see 40mpg is when I am driving the works fwd 2.0d ultra A4!

That does sound odd, I get 31-33 mpg on my 25 mile run to work in my S4. Maybe worth scanning for faults? Could get the Carista app and use your phone to do it.

My 230PS 2.0 TFSi A5 was returning Mid 30's maybe touch more on a run and the long term average (which is out and about at weekend and 4x 2mile trips each day in the week) was settling at around 26-27mpg.
My current 2.0TFSI Leon Cupra K1 (240ps) is slightly worse with the long term dropping to 25 and on a run around 30-32mpg, so about the same as my previous 3.0TFSi V6 Supercharged S4 !!!!!!

Surprisingly the S4 seems slightly better than the A5 on a long run upto Wales. But then I guess the 7th gear helped out there.
