ESP light

Went a quick drive to shops tonight, no warning lights were on go but come out the shops turn the car on and the ESP warning light comes flashing up. So I Drove the car home and turned the engine off and back on and it the ESP light is off again. Does anyone have any idea what could cause this. I'm not mechanically minded so I have no idea what to think.

Hi Neil, maybe get a vcds scan see if it shows up any faults.
 
When i bought my car the esp light was on. Turned out to be the haldex control board, was got into it and yea...common issue it seems and 700 quid to replace. Hopefully its not though!
 
Esp light can mean many things, gonna make the bloke have a hear attack with judgements like that lol, but yea get it scanned and posted up for some advice
 
Hey am just speaking from experience! Being that its salty on the roads and stuff, Most likely not though, Maybe something less... silly :D
 
Neil if you give me your location I will see if local member with vcds near you to do a scan for you. :)
 
Thanks for the offer, my uncle owns a garage that mainly deals with Audi and bmw so he's going to take it in this week and look it over. Hopefully nothing serious as the light went out and not been back on since.
 
Mine does this every now and then, usually if I hold the button down and press it a couple of times it goes away. I'm convinced it's something to do with the steering though
 
Mine is only a 1.6 petrol so I'm assuming it can't be any haldex issues.
