Last night a distracted BMW driver rear ended my mint 6 month old S3 . The bumper is surprisingly strong, seems to be re-inforced underneath but I have lots of marks from his kidney grille pretty much all the way along. Thankfully he admitted fault and I've got dashcam footage so thats one thing.

Spoke to Audi today and they can get a new bumper from the factory but it will be unpainted. Would you let them try and repair it or get a whole new bumper? I can't see them getting a great job of getting that line perfect all the way along, at the same time I've not had great experience with bodyshops painting whole panels in the past.

I done an sline conversion on my previous car (a5 coupe) bought a bumper off eBay which looked ok but when it came it looked as if it was unrepairable. Put it into the body shop and looked good as new, you'd be surprised what they can do!

But if the other driver has accepted full responsibility l'd go for a new bumper. I had a similar incident where I was rear ended by a fellow Audi driver, the Audi body shop took one look and said they would replace the full bumper.

Hope you get it sorted.

It depends on how good they are at the paint shop!

If they repair they will have to take the damaged area down to the primer or further and expand the damaged area to blow in the new paint. It could be noticed after they have done it!
If you go the other way and do a full bumper respray, it may still be noticed bumper/car colour, but at least the entire bumper would be the same.

Out of the two I'd go full bumper spray.

This exact same thing happened to me and I opted for Audi to do the repair. I got hit a bit harder than you by the looks of things and twice. Credit where credit is due - Cardiff Audi did an immaculate job in colour matching. Brilliant red as well which is a ****** to match.

The last red car I had was a company car, the cctv cam I had at the time was black and white. It was strange to see the difference in shades from the car vs the petrol cap and bumpers. Red comes up great when polished.

Where are you based. I can suggest a really good body shop which I've used and his work is really good quality finish.

If you are in a hurry then I suggest you to go for a repair shop. One of my friends get repaired from Audi and he was not satisfied with their service. Recently, I have repaired my car from "EQautomotive". You may try their service.

It's probably already sorted - original post was six months ago.

It's a no brainer, back to Audi Bodyshop to be done.
Never accept second best, you're not at fault, his insurance pays.
If you're registered with AudiEnsurance, give them the details, and they'll do the rest.
