Hi

Looking to purchase a new A3 saloon Sline 2.0 tdi and would like to hear your experiences on the following:

1. With the advanced key and electric folding wing mirrors do the mirrors automatically fold when you lock or do you still have to press and hold the button on the key fob to fold the mirrors?

2. I want a manual gearbox but would also love Quattro. I was looking at the 184ps 2.0 tdi but in order to get Quattro manual I would have to get the 150ps 2.0 tdi. Is the power that noticeable between the 150 and the 184 tdi?

3. Still on the Quattro how is your fuel economy with the 150 tdi? What is your average?

4. Quattro again, is the boot size that noticeably smaller compared to the non Quattro?

5. Magnetic ride shocks, are they worth paying extra for, I do like comfort and with the sline the ride is fairly stiff but not too bad, would the magnetic shocks make it softer when in comfort mode?

Your opinions are appreciated and I guess those with an A3 hatch are welcome to comment too

Mirrors fold automatically when the car is locked. Unfold when ignition is switched on.
You can force folding using the control switch in the door (eg for driving into a garage)

Boot is noticeably smaller as you loose about 3-4 inches in depth

I got long term average of around 50mpg in my non Quattro 2.0tdi

So on the above points, from my experience in a 184 SB quattro S tronic.

3. Lifetime average of 50mpg after 6k miles. I see mid to high 50s on long motorway cruises, and that's mostly what the car does. From comparisons with friends 150 manual saloon I'm about 5mpg down on what he gets on similar (easy) journeys. However remember quattro gets a 5 litre bigger fuel tank.

4. Yes as boot floor cannot be lowered (mine has B&O as well which may also affect it). Assume same issue on quattro saloon?

5. Expensive option but they do work (from my test drive of an RS3 recently) and in comfort mode I found it a more supple ride than my own car. However, my friends saloon on 19s rides perfectly well IMHO. I would have spec'd it on my car if I'd managed to get a test drive but none available.

Thanks for all the above replies.

I would be hoping for an average of 50mpg but it guess it depends on what routes you drive. Audi quote that the Quattro 150 vs the standard 184 is around 9mpg less so was just wondering how this converts into real world figures.

Those with Quattro is it worth it over the 2wd alternatives for day to day driving (and once the winter comes)?

Upgraded from the 1.8 tfsi fwd to 2.0 Tdi Quattro worlds apart. The Quattro has so much grip its amazing

Thanks for the reply, what is your average fuel consumption on the A3 quattro? also is the boot big enough? Could I ask a favour and get you to measure the boot from its usable floor to the parcel shelf? as above a member stated that it is not as high?

Averaging around 46mpg which is a mix of motorway and country roads it is the 184bhp. Will be hard for me to give you a measurement as we have the cabriolet now, with the saloon we found the boot plenty big enough, wife could get her mountain bike in fairly easily with the seats down

Not too bad then, random question but do you still get a spare wheel with the saloon Quattro?
