Parps and pops?

As above.

But the Unicorn ECU tune lets you do that, because it's been programmed to cut the spark in that interval, keeps the throttle plate wide open, thus keeping the airflow through the turbo etc. without all the nasty unwanted side effects if it hadn't been modified (simplistic explanation).

veeeight, Do you like it sparking like that?

Yup. I'm discreet also. Just don't like when people attack me or
my friends.

Just managed to get my hands on a new jcw with 1,500 miles on the clock and all I can say is wow. Totally different from what I expected, it felt roomy in the front, solid and the interior was lovely. Not as 'gadgety' as the older minis.

The handing felt really good as did the steering but the main thing for me was the sound. It popped so much at the right time and didn't sound fake. The auto box although not double clutch was good if not slightly jerkey in sport when flooring it but that could be solved by adjusting the driving dynamics.

Overall a well put together car that I'm seriously considering for my next car.

The car with the chilli pack and a few more toys worked out at £408 p/m (didn't hangle at this point but was told there was 'wiggle' room) with £3.5k down on a 48month pcp, 5.9% apr. Only slight concern was that the gfv was £10,493 which I felt was low compared to an s3 for example.

I look forward to hearing your experience @Pulp84 and @veeeight

I service I got from Cotswold BMW, Cheltenham was superb. Couldn't fault it in the slightest.

its not that many years ago (35!) that pops and bangs (and backfires in particular on overrun), were indicative of a problem with the car; timing, over-fuelling, valve seat wear etc. My RS2000 (circa 1979) had a triple 45DCOE Webber set up (yes three carbs into 4 pots) and it was an absolute pain to set up, and would pop and fart when it needed tuning!

I think it is great on upshifts, and a modicum on downshifts, but around me in particular there are quite few 'tuned' golfs and A3/S3 (v early versions) that pop fart and crackle (especially on overrun) and to be honest - they sound like sh... well you get my drift!

Agree about pops and bangs - its the engine being inefficient. I believe they also insert drops of fuel to make the noise too. Prefer the mechanical sound of engine only. When i drove an RS6 it sounded very different inside the car and thought something was wrong. For example, a Porsche 3.8 engine at redline is unbelievable.

Late to this convo but the loaner manual I have pops, not the parp from the auto it does the normal pop at high rev changes, it's not too loud in the car but it is outside.

I did have a run on couple of pops to at one point while decelerating under load.

Used to be the case in previous generations to generate noise, but no more since new tighter emissions legislation.
