Ive a set of these on my b5, not sure if theyre angel eye lights or what as I a mechanical numpty but anyway my issue is theyre next to useless on low beam in the dark (bordering on being dangerous lol) . The low beam bulbs are behind that stupid round lens thing in the headlight which as I said is terrible.

What I did was I bought a set of "ice white" (blue coloured bulbs) on amazon. I got a set for the low beam and also the high beams. Anyway as I said is it worth resorting back to the original bulbs?? To be honest I didnt do any night driving with the original low beam bulbs in so I cannot compare them.

heres the type of light I mean

I'm not sure what trouble you're having with your headlights? Mine are fine. I will concede that with standard bulbs dipped beam wasn't all that great but my previous car had factory xenons which we're ace so it was always going to be hard to match that.

I've now fitted Halfords Ultra Brilliance bulbs, I bought mine when they were BOGOF (£25) and they have made a significant improvement.

If that doesn't appeal to you perhaps look into a decent HID kit?

The cheap headlamps just have really poor projectors in them. Replace them with proper facelift headlamps and they'll probably improve.

when I had my facelift lights in my old car with standard bulbs I thought my pfl lights were better in my quattro when I got it.
as above fit a good quality hid kit. that's what I done with my facelift lights.

since fitted pfl xenon's to my quattro and really wouldn't look back.

OEM Xenons ftw !!
I don't know why, but my oem xenons are absolutely useless. That's with new bulbs as well. Had them aligned at awesome when they fitted exhaust, but still not much better.

I've seen examples of the reflector having become tarnished which seriously reduces the light output, Quite difficult to check without dismantling the headlamp though!

so can you guys point me in the right direction regarding your thoughts on the best course of action. Ive seen some HID kits on ebay but some are quite expensive. I was thinking about taking my chances & trying 100w (not for road use) bulbs and seeing how long I could last without getting pulled lol

Ive explained the trouble im having. The headlights on dipped are useless

Ok fair enough. Well as the consensus suggest either source a pair of genuine xenons, which will set you back at least a few hundred quid, you might be lucky and find someone selling a set and not realising what they actually are or try your luck with a HID kit. I wouldn't endorse fitting high powered bulbs as you'll be forever getting flashed!

Having got a set of HID off jbh i do notice a marked difference while on dipped beam. I will be transferring them to my next car straight away (when i get one LOL)

well guys i bought a 35w 8000k HID kit and fitted it. I got pulled 4 days later and got told they were illegal lol. I genuinely did not know this

8000K mate, they said they were dazzling, they said any aftermarket kit was illegal. ooops

so will xenon headlight clusters from a newer year fit mine?? I dont see any other solution,

They're technically right, aftermarket conversions are illegal.

However done properly they wont dazzle. I presume you have the facelift headlamps with the projectors in them? It may just be that your headlamps arent aligned properly.

Anyway if you want to do it properly, you need the Xenon headlamps from a facelift S4. You'll pay about 200quid for a set though.

yes ive got projector lamps mate. what year of s4 headlights should I look for???

1999+. You need to look for lights with integrated indicator.

thats the same type on my audi right enough, only difference is mine doesnt have that hole in the cover.

right so if i get these will the hid bulbs plug into the car existing wiring? sorry for the dumb*ss questions
