I've been reading the S3 400+ thread and comparing it to my MPG, I'm only getting about 450 miles to a tank which works out to about 43MPG. So I'm wondering what other people with the same engine are getting.
Had lots of work done on the car, fully serviced etc so should be sorted in that respect. I put my foot down from time to time, but most of my driving is on the motorway and normal speeds. I've done tests driving like my gran is in the car, still don't get much better figures.

Mines a 2006 BKD engine so no DPF. MPG is the same as yours and is mainly around town driving and the occasional long drive. Very few cars, if any achieve the manufactures mpg guides. Have a gander at Honest John website.

dont know any BKd owner that gets 50 + mpg. my old skoda superb TDI did better and wasnt that much slower ... lol

Currently on 41.3 mpg, able to get 60 mpg on a journey if I really mince. Once got 70 after resetting the clock after warming up. Drops to low 30s when having fun

Was hoping for a thread like this haha, I was going to post something similar! I've got a 2.0 TDI BKD PD140 and I usually get 60mpg and I do motorway mileage. By trying hard to drive economically, I managed to achieve a personal best of 700.3 miles on one tank of fuel! I know this car is capable of more!

The car is always serviced on time but it does depend mostly on the techniques you use when driving (bearing in mind I achieved the 700 mile figure towards the time when the oil was due to be changed!

EDIT: The TRIP 1 meter (although not entirely accurate) gives a good indication if you are driving economically. I usually get this to read this 68mpg+ as far as 80mpg, however I did manage to get this to read 90mpg once! Oh and I do have photos to prove it too!

I used to get a regular 45-50 out of the BKD, the thing is, it's such a fun car to drive, you could never keep that consumption up for long.
It was serviced at the correct intervals and didn't want for much. I miss it really, it was a nice easy drive.

180bhp BKD A3 2003, My average over 19,000 miles is 42.29. I have a reasonable motorway commute, but also a very heavy foot! I have had 602 miles out of a tank, but I average 477 miles between fill ups. I'm sure the car is easily capable of more, I just can't stay away from the boost!

140 BKD 2004

42 mpg in town driving like a tit and around 62 on motorway.. sometimes seriously feels like it runs on air.

I get 48-52, just pottering around town though. On a motorway it'll see near 60. 2006 (55) with good service history. I did notice a huge difference in driving when the clutch and flywheel was changed and i do believe there's a recent turbo change.

i get 200 miles to a full tank in my s3, sounds like im way off!

Managed this over 30 odd miles last night steady 60MPH...

Did see 67 MPG later ...

in the warmer months I get past the 600 mile barrier for a tank, in winter it drops to around 530

the number on your info screens are most likely inaccurate, maybe not by too much, but over a full tank definitely enough to matter

From 22 - 35 mpg out of the S3 or 240 mile to 390 mile from a tank.

all depends whos driving it me or the wife :)

33-35 mpg 2004 BKD, remapped to 190hp/433Nm.

I do have a lot of fun with it, never driving it slowly.

2004 bkd remapped. I'm getting around 42 around town and had over 70 on the motorway, manage to get to Scotland and back on a tank (730 ish miles)

what map do you have on it and how much did it cost?
What miles are you on?
did you have to change clutch?

A friend who is a professional tuner made it for me, the car is like mad. The turbo pressure is stock, he didnt want to risk my turbo because BKD turbos are bad.

I am at 120k miles.

I must change soon, I never changed it, it is slipping under hard acceleration.

How well did the old 1.9tdi engine do with MPG? A friend has. 1.9 A4 and claims to get it in the 50s.

Very well indeed! The 8P3 I had with the 1.9 TDI 105 PD was very good on fuel, better than the 2.0 TDI CR I have now - particularly on more local runs.

The early PD engines were superb on mpg, when my Golf PD130 was re mapped by Jabbasport the mpg increased even though power went up to 186bhp and 320ft lbs of torque.
Don't forget newer cars are heavier therefore use more fuel, although that's now changing and the latest cars are becoming lighter again with more efficient engines.

46mpg and 280 miles to half a tank sensible driving with map

Since most of my driving is done on motorways my 2.0TDI 140bhp used to get over 60mpg all the time before i upgraded from 17s to 19 and the hybrid turbo... now I'm pushing 220bhp and I'm getting about 43mpg... it roars when i floor it and i can't help it

Which turbo did you go with? Did you need to upgade anything else to fit it apart from a new map/ clutch?
Thanks

I bought a turbo technics although everyone says a turbo dynamics hybrid would have been better.
I had other stuff done to the car when I had it fitted on although I can't remember needing anything else for the turbo to go on

Usually anything between 55-65 mpg and i do not drive like my nan.

2.0 BKD tickled by Darkside with a hybrid turbo, boost pipes custom remap etc. Now on 146,000 miles and I got 570 miles over the weekend, filling her back up with 55 litres. Always get 500+
