As some of you may know I'm selling my beloved S3 to free up some funds to sort out our new house, I'm looking at a replacement of another A3 2.0TDI. Ive found a gorgeous fully loaded example on a 61 plate with 99k on the clock, its the 140bhp version. The seller hasn't specified about FSH yet but its on my list to ask, other than the cambelt what other things are or can be an issue at high milage? clutch, turbo? How long do they normally last?

I would only be putting 10-12k a year on it, i wouldn't normally look at high milage cars but this one does have a very, very high spec which is important to me and the equivalent car with the average 40-50k on the clock is coming in at £15k+ usually more for a loaded up black edition which is way above my budget.

Any help would be appreciated i also apologise if this is you are on here reading this and it is your car I'm talking about, PM me if so :D

3 days before Christmas I sold my 140 2.0 Tdi 3 door ,which was running on 176K.Ran like a freight train and I always changed oil and filters at 6-8k miles.

So at 99k I would not by any stretch of imagination fret too much,it has just been broken in.

However water pump and cam belt of course.Put aside for a clutch if it hasn't been done, they tend to wear off from 70k-115K miles.

Porous heads also known as thirsty coolant syndrome.Check for any coolant leaks if it has been running warm for a few minutes.

Rattling gearbox which I soon discovered wasn't a knackered clutch but a shaky doggone(gearbox mounting).

Wheel bearings tend to hum post the 120k miles. At 99K a thing to be mindful of.

Shocks and springs which one can tell when the chuck around corners and on aggressive braking.

The leaky coolant was 2006 and before, i had a 140 BKD golf which i sold on 75k which had a few small issues but nothing major, clutch and turbo was fine. I also owned a CR170TDI which was nice but a smidgen thirsty for a diesel even on long runs. if the belt hasn't been done i will get it done anyway if its not been done as its not a huge cost and he's asking a reasonable price anyway. The 140 seems the best of the bunch to go for, theres a few people telling me to go for a petrol, but there isn't many of the 1.8tfsi's around in a decent spec which is the one id go for...!

They are solid, buy it mate

Porous head doesn't apply to that year of car. It also has the longer hex drive into the oil pump so that should be fine too

Nothing really to worry about

Nice one. But Every 3k is quite often? Any reason for it? I could understand maybe if it was mapped..?

well its the hart of the engine, just looking after the inside as well as the outside. its cheap enough to do. sounds and runs sweet :kissmyrings:
