Remote entry?

Also shocking that you can buy a blank fob for £20 but go to the dealer and it will be in to three figures!

Daily mail sensationalism at its best again.
This isn't exactly a new story the reprogramming of the key fobs.
That must be at least five years old.

Just because there are more 'keyless' cars about now the mail think it's ok to run what is old news again.

Also note they have not stated that audis have been stolen, only that they possibly could. Mercs and BMWs are the ones that go....

It may well be sensationalism and I'm no fan of the Daily Fail but the risk is still a real one and, whilst the keyless options may be convenient, there's no denying that they're easier to circumvent as no physical key is required.

I'd rather have someone clone my key and steal it than four or five blokes break into my house armed demanding the keys or worse infront of my kids. It's only metal and provided you've got decent insurance it can be replaced. I find the convenience of it outweighs the possible risk.

Alot of this hype stems from the M3 problem where thieves realised they could get to wiring through the wing mirrors that when re wired allowed entry to the vehicle now every keyless car is tared with the same brush

Pal of mine works for Essex Police and I can assure you, almost half of all cars now being stolen are without keys. Thieves only need see the start button and it's easy pickings, Audis included. He's already dealt with one new S3 saloon stolen in Braintree last week and yep, it had Advanced Key and it was taken without keys. Right now I'd never spec a car with keyless ignition. You may as well hang a sign on your car that says 'steal me'.

I think they were breaking the drivers door mirror to get to the OBD port in the footwell to programme a new key, there's a video of an M3 being stolen in this way on you tube, I think it took less than 60 seconds. Many cars like my wife's Mini have the port in the footwell.

not getting keyless entry because it "may" be easier to steal is a bit paranoid

most of the cars are stolen via car or home jacking anyway ...

Anything with technology is hackable, no matter what any one says, the more complex a system it just means longer to crack. The best way to secure technology is when something happens that should not will raise an alarm. For example a tracker activates when the cars locked and if the car moves then they alert the owner, that's really the most you can do.

I liked the push start feature but watching this video makes me think otherwise:

Last part of the article by the owner upset me.

not problem on my key less entry car as I've added a ODB2 port security cover which locks in place.

Won't stop someone breaking into your car to give it a go though before they discover this...

Tend to agree with the others though - anything like this is hackable really, and I'd rather they get the car than break into the house to get the key, which is the alternative if they really want the car. I do find it amusing that the image in the original article that's supposed to look like the old style key that's "on the way out" looks identical to my advanced key...
