Hi All, need some help and thoughts on a problem my B5s suddenly developed, Basically went to Yorkshire modifieds on sunday at pickering showground, parked up walked around the show for a good few hours like u do admiring all the lovely motors on dispaly, when i got back to car Aaarggh..... *** car wont start, turned over but not firing so leave it a minute try again give the throttle a blip and eventually she roars into life, Then today needed to move the car so I can get motorbike out cos it needed a new front tyre, and same again, key in car turns over but not firing first time try again blip throttle and yet again she eventually roars into life.

Must point out that ive not been using it much lately, cos I use my caddy van for work as daily driver, so it only gets started every couple of weeks or so,not sure if that has any bearing on my problem...

ANY INPUT OR ADVICE MUCH APPRECIATED....

I'm afraid i can't help you with this purely because it sounds very similar to what mines been doing for the last 9 months although sometimes it would fire and run for a second and then cut out, eventually it would always start, problem is mine wont start at all now.
Just ordered a coolant temperature sensor as some people say this maybe the issue.

Does the immo light flash as it dies ?? B5's are known for immo signal issues on the transponder.

Mine used to do this when i first bought the car then i swapped all the internals of the key to a new housing and its never done it since that point try cleaning the little glass transponder out but be careful there brittle as hell.

Hi Bradderz the car doesn't "die", basically I turn immob off get in car, key in ignition it turns over but doesn't fire up on first attempt, then try it again and after blipping throttle it fires into life, as an after thought I have had some work done on exhaust last week ie; had a miltek silencer grafted in because basically it was a straight thru system, and it was way too loud so had to tone it down slightly, cant be that surely ??

Quick Update and a thanks for everybodys input, came back to car today found pool of diesel under engine bay oh oh!!! Hoping its just a burst fuel line,so reluctantly had to limp it down to local garage and leave it with them until they re-open Monday morning to investigate, fingers crossed its nothing else...

My fuel pipe had a leak at the front where it goes up around the bulkhead, then the pipe above the rear axle, replaced the whole length of pipe with rubber fuel pipe from Pirtek, cut the rubber in the clamps to fit the 10mm internal diameter pipe, perfect, it's tidy and not in any danger of splitting again.

You should have used copper. Running a long length of rubber hose under the car where its vulnerable isnt a great idea.

Car back on road investigation found Diesel return pipes had gone, replaced at local garage,Which by the way,i Had a stoke of good luck with, one of my old workmates has just took it over as part owner, which at the time of dropping it off Saturday I had no idea he was there,so it cost me £40 so im well chuffed thought it might be an expensive job. yahoo:
Thanks again for all the messages

Thats a result steve:cool: You cant beat a cheap fix eh.........

Mine would start then die after 2-3 seconds snd i thought immobiliser, but on thursday night after work at 10.20pm mi ignition swith collapsed internally. Rendering my car dead!.
The next morning i ordered s new switch from tps in stockton, fitted it, and it appears to have solved my other starting troubles.
The ignition switch is a complex thing so may be the cause.
