Amplifier location A6 C6 facelift.?

OK I'm not really that impressed with the ICE/MMI in the A6 C6 and with that said I'm wanting to change the amplifier(s).
Firstly I'm sure I've read somewhere that the amps that are fitted are not you std amps so to speak, could someone explain this to me in simple terms possibly?

Also what amplifiers are the ones to go for?
Is it not as simple as taking the old out and fitting a new in its place?

I'd also like to know where the subwoofer is if the A6 C6 has one fitted?

Give us a bit more info ... MMI version, BOSE, no BOSE etc, Saloon, Avant????

Sorry I'm unsure of mmi version, how would I find this?
I don't have Bose, but I've been in a car with Bose and although it was better I wasn't really impressed.
The car is a saloon.

Your out of luck if your looking for a simple upgrade. The C6 uses fiber optic to transfer the Audio around the modules, so you would have to rip the hole lot out and replace it with something different, but with the controls being in the center console and the display in the top of the dash your going to struggle to find a replacement solution.

Also most aftermarket systems are based around single/double din configuration that the A6 does not have, and no one other than Audi make AMP's that are compatible with the MMI entertainment system.

Your only option is a Bose upgrade, but that is not going to be cheap even with S/H components.

I'm sure I've read up somewhere that you can actually replace/bypass the OE amps by purchasing a certain type of aftermarket amp! But aren't cheap.

Is there actually ANYBODY that's fitted an aftermarket amplifier?
I really am surprised there's not more info on this!

Could anybody tell me what type of amplifier the A6 uses? As its been mentioned earlier that the A6 uses fibre optics rather than your standard wire setup, that's how I'm led to believe it.
