it has been knocking slightly in full lock for a little while, 2day they split apart, had to get a mate to tow me back! all the way they were clucking! i fear the damaged is done. how hard are they do change, any info would be appriciated, thanks

thanks audiv6quattro, for the quick response! i love my audi carnt let it sit still for more than a few days, i love driving it!

No worries mate I love my audi to but hate it when anything goes wrong as it costs a bit more than your average car but the build quality is twice as good. Hope you get it sorted soon mate. Dan

a joint kit from gsf is around 60 quid i think. is it a manual? if it is its easy to change without stripping the suspension at all.
crack off the hub center nut. 17mm allen key socket 1/2 inch big knuckle bar.
jack the car up and support on an axle stand.
remove wheel.
undo the inner joint off the gearbox drive flange 6x10mm spline bolts. (when undoing them stick a wheel bolt back in the brake disc and slot a screw driver in the vented disc against the brake caliper to stop it turning while you undo them.)
undo the center 17mm nut completely.
grab your jack, stick it under the lower ball joint on the suspension and jack the suspension up to compress it till its at the point where its just starting to lift the car off the axle stand.
get under neath and youll be able to slot the driveshaft out over the subframe. (you may need to put the 17mm allen key bolt back in the a couple of turns and tap the joint out of the splines in the hub to get it moving)
get the driveshaft in a vice, remove old clips, cut old boot off. grab your hammer and knock the old joint off. (theres an inner tension clip holding it on the shaft)
install new boot/joint (dont forget the new grease sachets) and refit.

with air tools/2 poster ramp/transmission jack ive had this job down to sub 20mins. charged out usually at an hour and a quarter.

got it fixed yesturday just b4 it snow`d like f___, got the pattern part but i really want the oem version but that was twice the price, was a little strap for cash but it was only 28+vat at gsf. any way this was so easy to change! was really impressed and only used 2 spanners!! glad to be back on the road. cv joint fell apart so only undid the hub bolt, knocked the old on out, slipped new one on drive shaft and in full left lock it almost went in, so a little tap of the hammer hay presto! gota say really love me a4, dont think i will eva get rid! ;-)
