    DIY question

Yeah. To be fair, I pretty much talked myself out of doing it myself as I wrote the post, for the exact reason of not really having the right tools. And thank you - nothing wrong with reaffirming safe practice.

    DIY question

That is exactly how mine looked! Popped it back under the engine cover. But I don’t think I’ll be driving too far without fixing it. what’s your plan - do it yourself or get someone to do it for you? also, can you take the part to a shop and get them to do the work, or is that considered a no no?

    DIY question

Bad weather has caused the underbody trim on the lefthand side to detach at the front, where it connects to the engine underbelly cover. I mean, it was terrible out there, like driving through a river. Question is, could I replace myself, or is it best to get a shop to do it. I’d be using a...

Audi A4 Avant TFSI 1.4 2017 Sport fuel economy!

The problem, as cake2u points out is it's very hard to get good fuel efficiency on a 5 miles trip. That is barely enough for the engine to get up to temp. Unfortunately, under those circumstances, in that size car, it's going to be extremely challenging to get 30+ mpg. A diesel won't be any...

Audi A4 Avant TFSI 1.4 2017 Sport fuel economy!

It is wired. Our styles and use cases sound similar. A 10 mpg difference between your long term and mine seems like a large discrepancy. Has your car just done the 4500? Mines done 30000. So maybe that’s a thing? Certainly there’s less stop start traffic in Norwich than there is in...

Audi A4 Avant TFSI 1.4 2017 Sport fuel economy!

My long term average in a 2016 1.4 is 44mpg, over a mix of city (65% of time spent) and A roads (Norfolk - so not many motorways), usually with 2-4 people on board, always in 'Dynamic', which to be fair doesn't mean much in a manual. I don't drive like a nutter. But I don't try to economy drive...

    Norwich service centre recommendations.

Car needs an inspection service and brake fluid change. Audi Norwich is quoting £265. Which seems a bit steep. Anyone recommend/have experience with a service center in or around the city?

    First gear issues [manual]

Yeah - having a read through that thread, it does sound familiar. Question - they noted the high bite point - is that something you feel is wrong too? I can’t say I have that issue. What I can certainly relate to is the intermittent toughness of engaging first. And it does seem to have aligned...

    First gear issues [manual]

It’s good to know it’s not just me. I’ll give that a go. But I’ve never had a car that I’ve had to use a work on something as critical as the gearbox though. My question; is this a defect Audi will remedy under warranty or is it something I’ll just have to live with?

    First gear issues [manual]

I have a 2016 1.4 manual. Occasionally, I’m finding first gear is hard to engage. I feel it’s mostly when the car is cold(er). But it has certainly happened when everything is warm too. It just feels like I need to push extra hard to engage the gear. I had thought of taking it to the dealer...

    Avant 1.4

Each to their own for sure. Everyone’s needs are different. And we all have to make compromises. Or we’d all be driving RS4s. The good thing, with (I’m guessing) £15k to play with, OP has a world of choice avaialable to them. Perhaps the real question is to know what they are looking for...

    Avant 1.4

psychoscot has a point about the gearing. First is tiny and a bit frustrating. Though I have got used to it. I would disagree about 2nd. Once the engine is warm, it’s more than up to the task. And (as I’ve noted before) there’s some fun to be had at the top end (when taking into account the...

    Updating SD maps

For sure. Other offline map apps are available for both android and iOS that will connect to your car via car play / android auto. And they’ll cost much less than Audi’s £250 per incremental update. I don’t have virtual cockpit though. So car based maps aren’t quite as impactful.

    Updating SD maps

Google maps supports offline maps. Once you set the area it stores the map locally (on your phone) without the need for a data connection. You can enter you destination, it will plan the route. The lot. All you lose in that instance is live traffic. But that’s the same if you’re using the...

    Updating SD maps

As cuke2u has mentioned a few times, unless your MY2016 has the tech pack, you’ll have to buy the SD card from Audi (£250 if I am not mistaken... ouch) or investigate how to get a preloaded SD card to update the maps. I had this confirmed at the Audi dealership. I’m in the same boat. It’s a...
