Same happening here - 2009 A6 3.0 TDI ..... after about 20 minutes the display is crisp and full brightness ... before that, it's either completely off or "yellowed" / dim. Annoys the crap out of me. Definitely worsened as the temperature has dropped here in the UK.

I absolutely know what you mean about the noise being too diesel-y, I agree 100%. Fingers crossed this is what the problem is - it would certainly make sense with the symptoms I'm having.
