Gutted.. Car Banned :'-(

I waited to get my S3, wanted one for about 6-7yrs (Old 8P shape then). But, back in 2011, I bought the ST instead as it was cheaper and just as quick, my girlfriend and I at the time were renting a 2 bed flat to save for a house and our wedding. Now my wife and after moving back in with my parents for two years we bought our first home in 2015. A few years on and after doing the house up, I finally took the plunge to replace the ST with the S3. Next year, we'll look to move house to make way for new arrivals... we've got a life plan and it's kinda going ok so far. I turned 30 last year (October) so still pretty young lol :)

If the 2018 RS3 sedan looked like the A3 Clubsport Quattro Concept car. I'd be all over how to get that car.
I was a bit disappointed to see the production model looks like a polished S3 facelift and nothing to write home about.

Perhaps if Audi ever decides to release the Audi Quattro Concept Sport, there will be another Audi for me to lust over, but for now I'm content with my A3.

Groundhog day quotes dont belong on this thread lol

Ah the youth of today lol.

Back in the 90's when I was in my late teens, my number one priority was to move out of my parents' house and get a pad of my own.

I was fortunate to land a great job which sent me abroad for 3 years (all travel and accommodation was covered) so I saved my nuts off so that when I left to get an even better job (I doubled my salary) I was able to put a 50% deposit down on my first property.

I realise things are a lot different now than 20 years ago and it is almost impossible for young people to get on the housing ladder these days, but that shouldn't detract from the fact that you should still put away money to help get onto it, or if not, for a rainy day when you might need it.

If I had a 19 yr old at home who was wanting a £40k car, I would be doing my hardest to advise them to save that money for the future. As a responsible parent, I also wouldn't be happy with them cutting about in such a high performance car with so few years driving experience under their belt.

That's the difference I think. You're tarring us all with the same brush. At 18 I was driving a 55 foot 44 tonne artic all over UK & Europe. All 750bhp of it, and before anyone pipes up, 'but it's a lot heavier and slower' heavier it may be, but the speed of those units with no trailers on their back is incredible acceleration wise. It catches a lot of car drivers out. All of my cars have been powerful, even my first. I was strongly advised against it, but why should I listen to someone who goes on the basis of a statistic? If you're determined enough to be different and not become a statistic like I, AudiNutta and Joe are/were then why not? 7 years on I'm accident free. Not saying it will never happen, but I beat the statistic of having an accident in my first year and two years of driving.

I think often the older generation think they're in an elite club and certain things and priviliges should only be available to them. (fast, dear cars, nice houses etc).

It's our money to do what we wish with it, and I thank my parents for allowing me to go ahead and do what I want with my money.

Don't tar us all with the same brush, I didn't even realise I was part of the older generation until a couple of years ago... it sneaks up on you you know, in a very sneaky and subtle attack that starts when you realise that Radio 1 is actually a bit annoying. A few key events then pass by almost without you noticing, like staying in on New Years Eve, and then suddenly you get the full wet fish slap in the face that says 'holy ****, I'm middle aged'. I swear it wasn't that long ago I was partying in a field, dancing my **** off, and trying to pull girls who definitely weren't marriage material. It certainly feels like only a few weeks ago that I was turning down blindingly lucrative investements in favour of blowing all my cash on cars, terrible nightclubs and trying to increase the notchiness of my bedposts, and mere moments since I realised that I would have been vastly better off now had I not been quite so quite so impetuous and gung-ho with my cash.

You should listen and learn while we can still remember this stuff, at the current rate of progression this middle age might move into full Alzheimer's and incontinence by sometime around the middle of next week.

I was the same, I've always had nice cars, had an Astra vxr Nurburgring at 18, then at 19 bought a 6 month old Focus rs mk2. Then at 21 bought a new 3.0tdi a5 black edition. (All whilst living at home). I don't regret any of it, I'm now 26 and had my own home for nearly a year and a half and in the process of buying a new home as I speak. The way I see it is that cars are my hobbie, my mrs moans occasionally about how much I spend on cars but we sat down and worked out she spends just as much on hair and make up each month!!

Go for it, you will regret not doing it whilst you can!

That sounds great, keep in touch. I am in the process of trying to sort a dealer meet at Cardiff Audi with Sandra, hopefully Cardiff will give the all clear and we can have a big get together. About time all the South Wales members came out of the woodwork ;)

Yeah that sounds like a good shout! i'll have to get on it then so the cars ready, got loads to do over the next few months with it!

Failing that, we will definitely have to sort something out locally later in the year. That's the only thing I wish with this forum, we attended more of the smaller car shows like the action days at Castle Combe etc.

I made the mistake of missing out on Audi's in the Park last year and have regretted it ever since, definitely going this year!

What do you have planned? I'm happy with mine at the moment, well.. once it has a safe steering rack :blownose:

I've just fitted a remote valve controller so they can be opened and closed manually, then I had the centre box delete for £120 at Longlife Caerphilly and it has totally transformed the car. This loan car is silent in comparison. Indigo-GT tried to talk me into a map up to 390hp, but not while there is a warranty in place I won't be.

Funnily enough my friend and I are going to castle coombe in April! I'm running a Decat and cold air induction at the moment and i'm really happy with it at the moment, I want to get a maxton design splitter, and then also rear tints, not too much though, then after that i don't really know but i'm sure i'll find more to do to it haha! Let me know about remaps as well, a very good friend of mine used to work for Revo and has set up on his own in cardiff and will be taking mine to stage 2 for me at a really good price! he's also used VCDS to permanetly open the valves in the back box which helps alot!

Hopefully it will be a nice turnout, when I went in 2015 with my A3 the stand looked awesome.

The lack of plans on the forum is bugging me :(

Just let me know if you're anywhere car show wise, i'm alway up for a day out with the camera and a good blast in the car!

Well, I'm not sure how to put something like that together for a club to attend. @Sandra would there be much involved in organising a stand if we can generate some interest for Castle Combe this April?

I will be very interested to hear the Decat James, the centre box delete is pretty loud.. not quite RS3 loud yet though, although hopefully that will change in a years time :p ;)
Definitely agreed on the tints, they add a lot to the car. I put a splitter on my EcoBoost Fiesta, another small change that made a huge difference.. can't say I have seen one for the S3 8V.

I will keep you in mind for remaps, thanks. Indigo quoted £700 for Revo, but I won't be going anywhere near anything to upset the warranty after this steering rack for a long time :'( Plus, my insurance want an extra £1500 for a map!! The exhaust modification was a reasonable £45 for the year.

My cars going on a friends stand in April i believe, he's a detailer and said he'd clean it up if i put it on there so a win win for me haha! and the decat sounds awesome! i'm having the centre silencer removed and maybe run slight overfuelling to get it to pop and bang like the new S3 but a hell of a lot louder, but with out petrol soaking the pistons, so the map is done i've just to got to find the time to get down to the workshop and play with it to get it right. and as for the revo map, i'm pretty sure i could get it for less than half of that for you for the software.. and as for the insurance.. it does suck, but a 19 year old with 300 bhp wanting another 90 to play with is risky business! (statistically) i work in insurance and remaps are bad news when it comes to risk statistics, so sadly 1500 isn't suprising for a map!

Who is your friend if you don't mind me asking? I know a few detailers around South Wales, but my most trusted is Midlands Car Care who are in the process of putting PPF on my car.

Sounds like you have some good plans, should make it a totally different beast. The older guys in work question whether my car is running right and it sounds like it's broken when it pops. The older generation don't seem to understand how fun it is. But, it tends to make you a 30mph zone hooligan haha.

Wow, that is incredibly competitive! I will keep it in mind to recommend some people when I come across them. The insurance was £2600 originally, multicar discount brought it down to £1700. The current quote given for me is £4500 :'( I hope it goes down before renewal in October.

As a forum dedicated to the owners of hugely overpriced German cars from a maker known to flout the rules a bit when it comes to telling us how much we are going to be spending on petrol, it seems odd that so many are so willing to offer financial advice and opinions upon what's mad or not, based merely on the OP's age. I'd argue that the act of pouring the thick end of £40k into a small hatchback is just as mad whether you're 19 or 90, and since none of us has bought a Kia, we're probably not that likely to be called upon as expert witnesses when it comes to being sensible with our cash.
Speaking of that brand's parent company.
When I was 19, my first sedan car was a used 1996 Hyundai Elantra. I think I only paid $400 for it through my Dad's friend. This was back in 2003. Car's only issue then was it's check-engine light and AC needed freeon recharging. I drove that sucker for 8 years before selling it. By the end the speedo gear completely went out so I couldn't tell how fast I was going without a GPS and it's alternator belt/gears would sequel every time the car was started.

When I finally got a new car after the Elantra, I stayed in the familiy and got a Sonata. Go figure.

Almost got a Genesis before landed here with Audi.

When in April do you need a stand for Matt? If you give me a date I will find out.

I guess I've just always cared for things to such an extent I've loved them all.

I'm an Electrical Engineer, I am just finishing up my 4 year apprenticeship now with my first solo shift last week.

I say college, technically it is university already. I am studying HNC, which is a University course at University level it's just my college offers the option to sit it there, which saves an hour travelling each way for me every week. I'm on day release to college, 1 day a week until May when it's all over.
HNC just doing mine in building services engineering. Are you doing the HND?

Great post lol xD I think us 'youngsters' fully understand everything you have just said as its what most of us are doing at the moment lol. I think its maybe trying to get the right balance of all that fun stuff whilst not throwing away too much sensible stuff, im not really a partier so a car is always my fun.

and again, great post PMSL

That's a new course on me :)

No, I'm not opting for HND. If I ever went back to do anything, I'd go straight to a degree which takes 3 years.

Basically a mix of both mechanical and electrical engineering.
