so I used to be addicted to drawing when i was younger like 11-12 year old, (wasnt really good but was fun) It kept me out of trouble. once i hit my teens I never looked near a pencil until about a week ago....... this was my first attempt.

just 5 minutes after posting this piece on facebook I got a request from a friend to draw him Wentworth Miller from prison break for his girlfriend. Im just finished the Wentworth piece about 10minutes ago.

sent him the picture and he is over the moon. :)

i used to be a bit of a doodler, but portraits are definately not my thing!
wentworth miller is my fav, very very good.
i take it you have a wide selection of pensils?
do you start with the light line work and marking areas for shading, then go in with dark shading and big areas of colour, then build it up tot the lighter shading, and lighter again before you finish by doing all the fine details?
you should get an electric eraser, brilliant for portrait work.

I only use 1 dark black, 1x grey and 1x light grey for all my work. then i use a smudger thingy that helps blend the pastel/charcoals together. Ive never used an electric eraser but I have just ordered on from Amazon this morning as it sounds like it will help me out alot specially with doing hair. :)

    cheers

i first saw one being used in a total tattoo magazine where they had a famous artist do a tutorial on drawing portraits for people. and they used an electric eraser and it gave it more depth. it was impressive
