    Hi all,

Been reading this forum a while since placing an order for an A4 however as its getting delivered in a few days I thought i would sign up.

I am waiting on an S line avant with the 1.4 petrol engine, manual gearbox in Monsoon grey. This will be my first audi and is on a fairly cheap lease deal so I haven't added any options other than metallic paint.

I admit i haven't even test driven an a4 so I am hoping it doesn't feel underpowered coming from a focus st diesel with 185hp and a lot more torque.

Like you, I was coming from a more powerful torquey diesel engine (190 hp diesel A6) as well as having my company Golf GTD with 184hp

I didn't test drive the 1.4 before ordering. The 1.4 is no rocketship and is slower than both, but feels more than adequate for me - it's quiet, smooth & responsive, and paired with the S-Tronic, is really quite a nice combo

My daily driver is a Mondeo MK5 180 TDCI which has the same engine as the Focus ST TDCI, the other car i have is an A3 8P 2.0 tsi 197.

Although the A3 feels only slightly quicker in a straight line, it certainly does not have the torque the 180 tdci has, you will miss that massive slug of low down torque going to the 1.4 tfsi engine the TDCI has 400nm of torque , the 2.0tfsi has 280 and I'm guessing the 1.4tfsi even less.

I have driven other 1.4l turbo engines in other cars, Mokka 1.4 turbo 140, Cascada 1.4 140 turbo, Meriva 1.4 120 turbo, Grande Punto 1.4 T-jet 120, Alfa Guiletta same engine, Fiat 500x 1.4 T-Jet 140, driven extensively. The Cascada and Meriva were sluggish.

They are decent enough, but I would of recommended a test drive - how long is the lease for??

The lease is 2 years. I can believe the cascada was sluggish, the wife had an astra gtc with the same engine and it weighed about a billion tonnes. The cascade will weigh even more.

Ive bought 4 cars previously without a test drive and it turned out ok, a 2001 mini cooper which i ordered pre launch, a 2007 civic type R which i ordered before any dealers had a demo, a 2012 evoque which i ordered pre launch and a 2013 octavia vrs which was such a good deal i didn't bother.

Depends really what your after performance wise - that list has some powerful cars on. I would imagine that it will be okay with that engine, not rapid or torquey but enough.

The Cascada was a slug! I had it a week in Tenerife and driving up the mountain roads was foot flat to the floor most of the time trying to extract what little performance it had!

So another little question, I have a 10000 mile a year 2 year lease on my car.

Audi drove it to my address for delivery, 250 miles. That won't count towards my mileage allowance will it? What if the 250 miles they drove puts me in the realms of need ing another service before i hand it back?

I doubt it will. But you will need to service it once in each year anyway. It will need to have had its 2nd year service before you hand it back regardless.

I have delivered a number of lease cars and I have to inform the salesman of the delivery mileage for him/her to pass on to the lease company. Other customers have told me they contact the lease company themselves to notify the delivery mileage figure.

I think informing the lease company, with supporting photos, is probably the sensible thing to do...
