The splash screen can be changed in vag-com, plenty of info on here if you do a search.

Are you doing a DIY install or using a retrofit specialist.
I might have this done in the new year. Either by using a specialist to supply & fit or source my own unit and make one of the retro boffins on here an offer they cant refuse to fit it for me! (cash/beer of course).

cheers
Paul

There aluminium rings the fit over the knobs/dials so you don't need to take the front off or do any Dremmeling!

p

you need to use the vagcom lead to select the S3 logo unless thats what the previous owner had. Mine is just the Audi rings. As far as I know you can't keep a logo displayed, it only comes on when you switch on the RNS-E, the only other option is to switch the screen off.

As it stands at the mo , RNS-E's seem to be £600 minimum on the bay ( before posting ) i don't have Vagcom , so it's not worth it for me ( as i'm not great at taking the dash apart / coding .

I'm getting somebody to supply and fit ( come to my door ) the RNS-e for , it's a Q model ( one of the latest models ) all in £775

It is a lot of bread , but as the price off the bay is so much it makes more sense + ive used him before and i was very happy!

p

what versions have alum rings? Is it S on models? Im sure you can get the unit for less than £600. Mine was £440 inc delivery though it came with 2005 DVD

There is a seller NaviBMWparts or something who normally offers them for £529 on Buy it Now.

I checked but he doesn't have anything listed at the moment but that's where I got mine from. Included a genuine 08 disk and gps antenna.

Hey Leon - have you got a quote off S8Craig ? He lives near us and did my SDS Hack on the RNS-E (a must by the way). Great bloke - very hellpful and what he doesn't know about Audi electronics ain't worth knowing !

P.S. - I never did get my CH/LH lights working which is why I haven't belled you.

Whats an SDS hack?

David

Enables you to talk to the RNS-E totally handsfree - "call Tony", "play track 34", "skip track", "navigate to DaveS3Turbo". Whatever you say it understands and obeys. Its nothing short of miraculous.

You have PM mate.

I would guess there all roughly the same sort of price supply and fitted , there all around the £750-£850 mark on the bay.

There just isn't many for sale as stand alone RNS-E , it looks like peeps are buying them up and putting on a whack to supply and fit.

I seem to remember Kontrband and L6ON ended up getting theirs on eBay but from Lithuania or somewhere weird. Can't remember what they were paying though.
What you say makes sense though - fitters who know how to do this quickly will make a killing by buying them all up and charging for fitting.

What alurings Leon? How's things lad?

Alurings are the little chrome rings around the two knobs.

Except it doesn't link to the phonebook stored in the GSM kit and you have to manually add all your phonebook entries into the RNSe and then add voice tags......
Also once you have done the SDS hack you can't use the original GSM voice commands, you have to go through the above step. Thats why I binned the SDS hack as it was too much of a pain!!

I'm happy to help out Paul if you get stuck.

Tis true that - its like when you first change all your CDs to MP3s or iTunes. A right ball-ache but worth it in the end. I only saved my top 20 numbers which wasn't too much of a hassle to be honest.

Nice one, Cheers.
Will do some digging on the Net etc and see what comes up.
Might take you up on that depending which route I go.

Great investment the RNS-E. I got mine from the Lithuania route for the bargain price of £459 and fittted it myself. It's not difficult, but you do need access to vag-com.

Interesting to hear your opinions on the SDS hack John - I was considering doing that, but as I don't have a MFSW decided not to bother. I might go down the Parrot MK6100 route at some point as that looks like it will do the job nicely.

Re SD Cards - Amazon currently have a 4GB Transcend SD card for £5.53 inc free shipping from a company called TradeportUK - details here. You can't use SDHC cards on the RNS-E. I have 2x2GB cards and they do the job nicely for me.

I'm happy to pop round yours with the Vagcom Leon - if you get the unit as redbutcher suggests.

an one planining on poping by side of the planet.....I'll will through in the beers, dinner, and a night out....

ohh...my located in athens...

S3 logo is in adaptation in rns 37 or 56 & channel 18 & make it a 1 for S3 logo & only shows when starting rns no other times.

Those rings are ***** trust me, the official ones can be fitted as mine are, but it is fiddly & requires some modding to make them fit properly & with no led bleeding around the edges of the new dial, it requires taking the front fascia apart anyway, no not for the faint hearted, but those rings above look so out of place when fitted, mate had them & just made it look cheap & tacky tbh guys

I thought all commands worked perfectly just have to make sure you select the correct function, as the gsm commands before the rns full on sds hack applied were purely for the phone anyway no other voice commands, so you have to make sure in phone mode then use the commands as the mic is now direct to the rns then connects from rns to bluetooth module, I seem to remember this came up a while ago & it was as stated just make sure you're in the correct mode before stating commands.

If anyone needs sds hack files for burning just PM me & I'll email over.

If they look nasty i won't put em on , only £20

I've got a set on mine and they look just fine.

Personal preference then I guess, but I guess I had a comparison at the time so maybe biaised lol

The proper chrome knobs do look far better, but I don't fancy all the pain of fitting them.

Well I cant fault you there it is a real pain in asse for sure, but nice results, but some have done without using some existing parts & they get bleedover of the leds under the new dial, where as if they used some of the original parts the led's are hidden again, god I did a test run 1st & I hated it with these you wouldnt think damn bright led's shining out, distracts your driving for sure, so had a rethink & dremelling & several hours later sorted, lol.

Just a thought , will one of the button ( i have crome buttons/knobs ) off my Symphony fit straight on?

p

not straight on but dont know what they look like tbh as in size, any pic?
