Currently got A3 1.8T but want a change, £15k is my max budget including the px of mine so would have to be a trader. I'm 'open' to ideas currently thinking A3 2.0T s-line or the Golf GTI £12k for a tidy one these days, what about the new Renault Clio Sport 197 ? I've seen these for £9500 ? I would consider anything really, but smallish and nippy not too fussed on miles as I only do 5k a year and would keep car for 3 years.

E46 M3, seen a good few 03/04 plates for around 15k.

Yes, for the money, great choice, factor in running costs and £400 per annum Roadtax! Not so cheap in the long run in my opinion, but it's an M3, so it's least expected. :racer:

The Golf GTI is a good choice, it's a great all rounder with performance and handling, and it will still be worth something after 3 years and another 15k miles on top.

Not a small car by any means, but an RS6 would be my choice if youre doing lowish miles

you'll struggle to get an X plate RS4 for 15k...a decent one anyways (ie not a crappy colour etc)....15k will get you an S4 new shape if you search enough.... then again it sounds like you dont know what your after, your considering a clio, S3, golf etc.... S3 will be best for holding the money as less popular than golf (even though it may not seem so currently the golfs have dropped too)...the clio will see the biggest depreciation

My M3 is up for £11495 ONO if you fancy it!!! Immaculate!

I'm after an 8L S3 for abit and to free up some cash! I can recommend them. Different beast to the S3 though, not as easy to drive fast i'd imagine, but fun trying!

If it were me i'd be looking for a car that has pretty much stopped depreciating & would put a smile on my face every time i drove it

something like this can't depreciate too badly in 3 years:

My first car was a Ford Escort 1.3LX, 3rd, mecury grey on a H-plate so same shape as the Cosy, I always wanted an Escort Cosworth :arco:

I can afford it now, but I like to be stealthy and that big rear spoiler gives it away, I will go and look at one though.

didnt you see top gear last week!!?? 120k merc, 18 months old went for 18k ish??? find sumat like that lol

True comment about the "stealth" or distinct lack of it in the case of a cossie but if you only do 5k a year & keep it garaged inbetween I think you won't be loosing too much come sale time

the question is are you bothered about losing your 15k or what ever you spend? we can shout cars at you all day long without any bearing at all on whats going through your head

Its still a 16 year old Ford, going to need maintaining and if your hoping to get your money back come resale time then you need to keep it in tip top condition.

I'd rather have something much newer and nicer personally

Problem for me is parking :( I've got off street but the car would just sit there during the day, I might get more secure parking in near future but not 100% sure.

Looking around at prices and value for money the Golf GTI seems to come out top, you can get a very nice one with heated leather for £10.5k - £11k lowish miles some with a bit of warrenty left, don't fancy DSG though.

Whats the GTI like to drive against the A3 2.0T, I will try both anyway ? I should have the £ to buy by end of the week, I'm getting my ICESAVE cash back ! :) :jump::jump:

The Golf GTI gets a great write up. I'd certainly get one over an A3 2.0

They're smart, especially with the 18in alloys

Well with car prices dropping like mad, anything is at your disposal.

I'd go for the practical yet powerful Golf GTI ED30 maybe?
