Sorry...why would you get a Golf MKIV R32 when for the same money you can have an 8P A3 3.2 Quattro? It's the same car as the NEW Golf R32!!!

MKIV R32 looks agressive... the MKV looks like Stevie wonder styled it.

Not saying the sline A3 3.2 quat is a crap car. Clearly it isn't. But I'm with Tekin on this, if I had a choice out of them, I'd pick the mk4 R32 on sheer looks and prowess alone.:icon_thumright:

I can't believe that you can't find a decent example s3 out there. What the hell do people do to them?

What are the main problems that you find with them?

The interior in all the r32 on pistonheads ive seen are imaculate and they all have low millage more or less whereas on the other hand the s3's all have high millage and the seats are all tackey and creased and the steering wheels all look worn out and discolored. I also think the 32 looks mean compared to the s2 and the 3.2 a3! 3.2 a3 has the least looks in my eyes audi s3 comes second the r32 comes frist it looks means and that how i like my cars. Although the s3 does look more prestigous i would rather the r32!

new s3 is 265bhp - maybe that's what confused you?

yeah your right

if i did have the cash i would love the new s3
i would not look at r32 at all

new s3 has it all speed, looks and name

Old S3 is easily remapped to 265...

How about an Audi A3 8P 3.2 s-line, and instead of spending money modding the engine, get an Oettinger kit for it and tint the windows...

Then you can blow anyone away from the lights, you've got the MKV Golf R32 basically and your car will look like this!

http://fourtitude.rely.net/cgi-bin/artman/exec/view.cgi/7/1926

or even better if you go for the 3-door...

(PS. I know I'm biased because I own one but I have driven the others and am trying to be as objective as possible!)

will be 15k for a nice 3.2audi then i got the body kit thats going be a lot.
wht im getting at is i dont want to give more then 15k

oh and that is one hot body kit :hubbahubba:

Just to throw another curve ball in you could get a MK4 R32 and get it remaped to 247bhp but you have a better haldex and probably chassis on the Audi. Does it share the same platform as the MK5?

they are cheap hmm
maybe now that the new s3 is out know one wants 3.2

its so hard getting a new car
i have 15k and dnt no wht 2 do with it maybe il just get a (renault 5 turbo) ali G style lol

15k go casino put it on RED and see if you can double your money? If not then f**k it! You'll have to carry on walking on your size 9's!

The mkV R32 must have some uprated suspension/brakes over the A3 3.2 Sline?

If not, I may well consider it when I replace my Mk1 S3.

I wouldn't count on it - you know what the VAG group are like for sharing parts.

R32 MK4 and A3 8L = same chassis...
R32 MK5 and A3 8P = same chassis...

R32 MK5 and 3.2 Audi essentially same car. Same brakes, engine, gearboxes, haldex system, chassis...

I hear what some of you are saying about styling but that's not so important to me nowadays. I love the fact that idiots in Saxos and Golf GTI's look at my car and think they have a chance. And then it's bye bye!

They are different...

The basics are the same, but the damper settings and spring rates are different - or they certainly seem that way to drive.

You could say the same about a Mk4 R32 and a Mk4 4Motion, but they were VERY different to drive.

The Mk5 R32 and A3 3.2 are as different to drive.
The A3 3.2q is a fine car...but it's no R32...but Audi don't pretend it is.

Go on the Ess elaborate on this. Same engine BHP and Torque, gearboxes the same shares the same chassis assuming same ARB's shocks, springs etc tyres and alloys how can it be different? Im questioning coz I don't know, I'm not trying to be smart

I don't believe the spring rates, damper settings, suspension angles, bush hardness etc are the same...
Although it shares the same 'platform'...as in the same layout and major component mounts, the fettling of the suspension will be bespoke to the individual model...not common to all on the platform.

If everything were the same, suspension wise, it still wouldn't mean the car would drive the same...the A3 bodyshell wears it's weight differently to a Mk5 Golf...the Golf is taller and more square....and I'll be the Audi interior weighs more.

Anyway...a quick check of ETKA reveals:
R32 F damper = 1T0 413 031 GK (55mm dia)
A3 3.2q F damper = 8P 413 031 GK (54.6mm dia)

so the dampers are different for a start...
Different valving...different drive.

That may be the case but overall the A3 is 50 or so KG lighter than the R32!
Also, check the 0-60 stats on both cars, you may be surprised.

It surely depends of 3dr or 5dr, DSG, and options?

Neither are exactly light...the fact remains that they drive differently.

I considered an R32 before getting my S3. I was put off in the end because the audi badge is better than the VW one and also because of the fuel consumption and looks. However Im looking to get my misses a Mk IV R32 in a few years because I think they look mean and she only does 3000 miles a year so fuel bills are no problem. There my second favourite car on the road today.

The R32 is like a raw beast which needs taming. Even better when your sexy misses steps out of it.

At the end of the day mate its up to you.

dont get your girl one she going to beat you in a race . lol

S3. Simple formula for me:

Turbo > N/A
I used to think that but there is alot to a bigger normally aspirated engine which i like now.:rockwoot:

MPG on the R32 is low 20's, on the S3 is mid to high 20's.

I'm 26 with 8 years no claims and a clean liscense.

To insure an R32.... £875
To insure a S3..... £650

Both with £250xs

Think they are both group 19.
where did you get a quote like that? cheapes i could find for my S3 was £1100

i have 9 years no claims, clean licence and im 27. most places quoted me £1500 + ... im in leeds (cant say that makes much diff)

It can.... A bd6 post code for my A4 is worth £1500 to an insurance company, yet my old Harrogate address only cost me £400 ish.

Have you tried Priviledge. They do cheap insurance for high group cars.

ta dudes, ill give it a blast. does a tracker or awt make a large impact on lowering premium? or is it just a couple of hundred?
