I very recently bought a Q7; it took me a long while to find exactly the car/spec I wanted, within my budget.

Within 4 or 5days, I thought I noticed a kind of surge between 3rd and 4th and then a bit of a clunk between 4th and 3rd. Another day or so later and it was quite noticeable and then I got the 'Gearbox Malfunction ... you can still drive ... workshop soon as possible' message on the dashboard

Using my OBDeleven, I retrieved the error codes; P07DE00 (Incorrect Shift from Gear 3) and U112300 (Databus error value received).

The dealer that I bought the Q7 has been brilliant and true to their word with regard to their 3-month warranty. As soon as I told them what had happened, they said that I could have/do whatever I wanted i.e. they would recover the car to a gearbox specialist, get it repaired and returned to me, I could use my own choice of gearbox repair specialist and they'd pay the bill or they'd collect the car and give me a full refund. They've not at all been pushy in any direction, seem to be 100% focussed on me being a very happy customer and having a car that I love ... or a full refund, my choice. I pretty much need to make that final decision tomorrow!!!

BTW, the repair bill is circa £4,000 plus VAT (£4,800). Not the kind of expense I want coming back to me in the future if there's any chance of a recurrence!

I read that the ZF-8 is a highly rated gearbox and that issues are rare. One person has said to me "That's just one of the 8 gears that's gone wrong. What about the others?" and that thought is in now my mind :worried:. I've looked and just can't find another Q7 that ticks all of the same boxes so feel like it's this one or none.

What I'm asking you nice folks is, in my position, would you walk away from the car and take the full refund, or, would you be happy with the car once it's been fixed (there was even talk of giving me an extended warranty for 12 months, if that would give me peace of mind etc)?

I really haven't seen another one that I like as much and has the spec I wanted (Sepang Blue, full leather heated seats, 360 cameras, self-parking, virtual dashboard, head-up display, NO pan/sunroof ... I hate any kind of sunroof in a car!) :coldsweat:

What do I tell the dealer; cash or car???

If this is an stronic gearbox then you’ll take a risk with any car you buy, so I’d get them to repair it for you if you like the car. At that price I assume it’s the mech unit that’s gone, which are very common.

If it’s a ZF 8-speed, that suggests a normal torque converter auto box rather than a DSG. But that aside, I agree with @razza1, get it repaired and enjoy it.

Q7 has the Aisin 8 speed, not ZF. Usually very good. I would get it repaired.

Hey Marcus, I’ve got the same problem on mine but with gears 4 and 5. You mentioned the repair cost what was the problem? What was done to repair the problem for you?
