Battery disconnection

My vehicle isn’t going to be used after the next few days for a few months so to preserve the new battery that’s been fitted Wednesday I thought I’d disconnect the negative battery lead.
Do I need to let the ecu go to sleep before disconnecting it or is it safe to just remove it.

Or just fit a ctek & leave all connected to maintain.

Had a battery fixed today and the garage said it doesn’t require coding, is that correct? It’s a 2010 A3 8P start/stop
