To be fair both times my road tax refund have come through within a week. My renewal is in February and will be £465Mine went from £140-£145 this year, I just had the renewal through.
I pay car & house insurance, tax etc in one hit to avoid the big extra chunk they put on for monthly payments, but with the car tax it works out £7.25 extra over the year, so I do it monthly, it's easy to sell the car and cancel it rather than be waiting around for a refund.

Certainly is, small price to pay for the car thoughYikes is that with the extra for being over £40k?
So I'm paying more for the superior car then! LoLIsn't it more for a manual gear box?
Anyone else got their renewal through. Dont remember it being this much last year.

While they are at it they should stop petrol stations from issuing fuel to cars without insurance, that’d lower the amount of uninsured drivers on the road. Especially as there’s so much technology around now a days I don’t know why it’s not possibleShould just get rid of ‘car tax’ completely and wack it on fuel. Easily the fairest system. Still ‘free’ for electric cars and more miles you do in an ICE vehicle, more you pay. Never understood how it was fair someone who did 3k miles paid the same as someone who did 30k. Plus would save a huge amount of money from the administration of it all. Only complication is the newer luxury tax but could still have it, just an extra tax on vehicle purchase.

I do agree with the points you make, my main gripe with the current road tax system is it’s done on list price not the actual price you pay, for instance my S5 was over £55k list and I paid just over £30k 9 months later, yet I pay the £550 odd road tax. Plus why should someone pay the same extra supplement for over £40k list that buys a £41k car vs a £200k car... that aspect doesn’t make sense and isn’t fair.To be honest £200 a year is nothing really is it? 0.55p a day.
We've seen on here many times people complaining that the car TAX is too much for them to afford. Yet they were looking at a new S3 for £500+ a month on PCP or whatever. Just the same with the Licence fee. 40p a day, and people are up in arms about it.
Yet the same people spend
£80 a month on a SKY subscription
£350 car payments.
£12.50+ a day of Fags.
£50-60 a week on a night out
But then blame the government for not having enough money to pay for road tax or licence fee. We all have a choice how we live our lives and spend our money. If you think life is tough now, just wait till Labour get back into Government and raise Taxes. Labour have historically gone after the motor car as a way of raising revenue. They know we all need our cars and will pay whatever to keep them.
This isn't aimed at the OP. But just in general to car Tax moans over the years on here.

True, there must be some workable solution though maybe a scannable card or something you get from your insurance, sure there is a few things that could be tried.I like the concept but surely that would drive a dramatic increase in number plates being cloned and all the pain it brings to the legitimate owner of the plate? If driving a car with a cloned plate then less incentive to pay for fuel so the legitimate owner gets hit for that too.
Of course they will, how else will they raise the extra money to pay all the lazy gits with 'bad backs' and 'bad knees' to sit at home all day doing nothing. Oh and not to mention all the money they give to the local sl4g who breeds like a rabbit!just wait till Labour get back into Government and raise Taxes. Mind you with electric cars in the future it’s not an issue that’s going to be around for very long anyway
Oh in the news yesterday, a single mum with 2 kids, she is working part time and she's moaning that her wages of £900+ benefits only comes to £2,000 per month and she can't manage and wants more!!!And they've recently announced that they are going to immediately (if they get in) take off the 2 child limit for benefits. As well as taking off the Benefit cap.
Labour. The party which gives sitting on your @rse all day doing f**k-all a genuine lifestyle choice !
Quite sickening really. I don't know why I'm bothering working and studying for a qualification when I could just sit at homeOh in the news yesterday, a single mum with 2 kids, she is working part time and she's moaning that her wages of £900+ benefits only comes to £2,000 per month and she can't manage and wants more!!!
It's called self respect mate and wanting to make something of your life, rather than scrounging off the state.Quite sickening really. I don't know why I'm bothering working and studying for a qualification when I could just sit at home

Know what you're saying mate, I have a mate who runs his own business and he tells me much the same, chasing money he's owed from before summer. My wife does all the ordering for the company that she works for, sometimes the orders don't come in! When she calls them to see why, it's because her company hasn't paid the bill from 2-3 months back, so they don't send anything in until they do...they are all at it.And Labour will happily give her more, while Taxing those who work to pay for it all.
I'm self employed and a Limited company, so I'm going to get hammered the most by Labour. 35% corporation tax. They don't understand that I'm not a huge corporation with huge profits. I'm a sole trader trying to earn a living. I've had 2 companies that provided me with lots of work close down over the last 18 months. The second best bust only last month, and owed me money.
In my job I can't invoice weekly either. It could be weeks before I'm in a position to invoice. I then have to wait a few weeks for the invoice to get paid. So I need money in reserve.
I have another company that still hasn't paid my invoice from July. I chase daily and keep getting flogged off. "It just needs signing off. You'll get it in a few days"
So as a sole trader, I need to put money aside each year so when I get a late payment, or no payment, I can still pay myself. Labour what to take 35% of those funds away, to give to the "Can't be @rsed gang". So I run the risk of running out of money, while those on Benefits are guaranteed their cash.
Boils my p***. Yet my own mother will vote Labour. She's always voted Labour and always will. When you point (or try to point) these things out, you can see her eyes glaze over. "Not interested, I always vote Labour" Arrgghh !!!
I also know what you mean, my dad runs his own business and through my job I see how tough tax is on self employed people (essentially end up being taxed twice). And Labour will happily give her more, while Taxing those who work to pay for it all.

Yes I think no TV and sky is a breach of human rights...sure I read that somewhereThat is because Sky, Latest mobile Phones, tablets, laptops, Game consoles, 70" TV's, fags, booze etc is really really pricey...these are just BASIC necessities
Isn't it more for a manual gear box?
