Ive had my 2.0 TDi BRD 170 for 2 years now and I have never seen any smoke come out the exhaust. Even after giving it some beans to clear out the `cobwebs`. Nothing at all. I was hoping to eject some black sooty mess out the system
I think if you give it enough beans regularly and it's in good order, you shouldn't get black smoke. The only diesels I've driven that give big puffs of smoke are those that never see full throttle (until I drive them) or those that have been mapped.
Mine burns virtually no oil between annual oil changes (now 98,000), runs as smooth as silk and the inside of the twin exhaust tips are always clean and shiny - I put this down to the DPF
