What Car Care / Detailing Have You Done Today ?

Did you or did you not get a ruler out for the stripes?

Free hand mate, no rulers. Just used Colourlock upholstery brush. Was too exhausted by the time I finished as I spent almost 3.5-4 hours doing the interior but couldn't help myself

First wash in a while today, used the gyeon q2m smoothie wash mitt and it's now my favourite mitt. I also fully decontaminated the car, painstakingly going around the body panels with clay and then getting every spec of tar from the lower panels which is ****** difficult on a dark paint with no direct sunlight. Got no pictures of this but it's not noticeable anyway, it's just in preparation for the big paint correction I've been wanting to do on the car since I bought it.

I couldn't resist getting out the DA so I used it on the b pillar trims which are a horrid piano black plastic that just turns to a swirl nightmare as I'm sure many of you know. It's very hard to see the difference in pictures but I've got some pics after I sorted the swirls and a pic of the other side which is yet to be done. It's hard to see the improvement in pictures but it makes a huge difference in person.

Nice work mate

Cheers buddy. Washing two cars in a day is hard work, but washing three is an effin killer. I started at 0900 and finished around 7:30pm.

I was supposed to be paint correcting BMW today but the order was returned by DPD as one of the bottles was damaged . In a way it was a blessing as I washed all three ready for paint correcting on Tuesday/Wednesday next week.

I’ll bet mate, like you I often do two cars, but 3 is 50% more

I made the mistake of touching up a few paint chips, whilst not having to travel to work. @ 15 man hours later I’m about 1/2 way through the full paint correction.:coldsweat:

Started correcting the car around 7pm earlier today and only did the bonnet so far. She is tucked under to avoid getting any dust from the garage roof. One thing is for sure, the car is not going to a £5 car wash, ever again! It is a swirls galore and let's hope I can finish the 2-stage correction tomorrow.

Finally had time to fit my RS front grille, gotta say pretty chuffed with myself....thank you to the internet for the directions...haha

Also managed a quick prewash with citrus, autobrite snowfoam, GTechniq shampoo and finished with some quick detailer.

Really wanna attempt my caplipers but may hold off while until the brakes need doing...

Well l machine polished all 4 alloys just the faces of them...they turned out better than new...scrubbed all 4 tyres with a specific tyre brush and fairy liquid...then a snow foam, wash, towel dry, then machine polished the full drivers side doors...applied some Fusion wax....beginning to dislike this wax....doesn't spread easily on to panels....buffs off ok but...the finish is first class..so in all av spent 6 hours...on it....just for the next door neighbour to cover my car in cut grass....frickin eedjit.......moron.....

@jassyo06 need a proper machine mate. DA ain't cutting as much as I would've like it to or it can be the Shi*e compound that I am using . Need some suggestions. It is taking waaay tooooo long to get the car done. Just finished the bonnet, roof and driver side. Passenger and back still to be done.

It is taking between 6-8 passes (really slow between 4-5 speed) to get 90% correction . And I was supposed to finish 2-stage tonight

I bought some cutmax as I keep getting haze after using the DA with sonax perfect polish and hex green pads. Also bought a softer hex blue pad for finishing, glad to see you recommend cutmax as I was anxious it would cut too and ruin my clear coat.

Too late now mate . I am using Zvizzer HC 4000 heavy cut however, I am still struggling to remove some of the scratches. For example, on this panel I have done really slow 7 passes at 4 speed on the DA and this is the finish I get . Annoying. It actually takes me almost 14 passes to get the finish I am after.

You can see from the picture there are still minor swirls / scratches, which are effing annoying

Excellent work @V6_Man :thumbs up:. I’m sure it’s really satisfying to see this level of finish after your hard graft.

I’m getting mine lightly corrected and a fresh coat of Exo on next week. I can’t take the credit for it as the company I’ve always used will be carrying out the work.

Cheers mate - I wish I'd done the same and if I don't get the kind of finish I am after I might actually do it

Sonax Cutmax is a machine polishing airbag, handy to have just in case of a paint inflicted accident....as l found out, Sonax perfect finish,Sonax Cutmax,Menzerna 3500 are all you'll ever need to correct or polish your car with...they are almost dust proof....take your time with any of these and the results that can be achieved are amazing,l went back over the full drivers side today with Menzerna 3500....l had covered it with perfect finish a few days before and the results where awesome.....l sat in front of a freshly polished door using 3500 and l could see some wrinkles on my coupon that l had noticed before in a mirror...lol

So, after nearly 2.5 days of hardwork, huffing and puffing and swearing I am happy with the 90-95% correction I have managed to achieve on the car.

After the usual decon, which involved combination of IronX, Korrosol and BH Medium Clay I started off with the bonnet. And is it was my first time using a MF pad, it took me a little over 2 hours just to finish it. . Now it could be the compound that I was using or my technique, 2 hours on a bonnet is waaaay to long. Having said that, the finish is perfect.

Products used in the detail / correction were:

ShineMate 5" MF Cutting pads - 4 in total
Zvizzer HC 4000 Heavy cut compound (not sure if I like it due to 'lack of cut'
CG - Green Pads (used them with Perfect Finish)
Sonax Perfect Finish
BH Cleanser Fluid
CarPro Lite Ceramic Coating
CarPro Applicator Block
CarPro Suede MF cloths
Carbon Collective Edgeless Panel Wipe MG Cloths

great job mate, but agree, 2 hours on a bonnet is too long, reckon a better DA/polish combination would work better, but then who am I to comment as my corrections so far have been on pretty new cars, but did do the bonnet and sides on Q5 after just under 18 months ownership, and took about 2.5 hours, but that was decon, correction, and coating. Good to have your hard work "sealed in" as much as you can, short of what PPF would offer

You have definitely done more detailing than I have so, it is experience that counts. I am planning on giving it another go next month as I would like the finish to be flawless but it might be a futile attempt as perfection cannot be achieved unless off course you are @jassyo06

Anyone can press the trigger on a polishing machine mate but l think experience in product choice is more important...trial and error...as they say and most of all is taking your time machine polishing to achieve the best you can
