"Had a quick look at the Nest offerings. Wow they are expensive for what they are. The cheaper outdoor cameras are only IP65 a minimum spec for weatherproof . The more expensive outdoor camera the IQ is IP66 so better but not IP67 which is what you really need for a camera that's fully exposed to the weather in this country."
Your paying for quality - once again it’s like comparing our Audi’s to a Dacia. If you have Nest products you realise they are worth the extra. It’s not about a rush to the lowest price point.
The cameras are only mot the full IP67 because they have speakers and microphones for two way communication. I have had Nest cameras for years and there are no issues.
They may have a 4K sensor but the max resolution is only 1920 x 1080. Each camera will use 2 meg bandwidth on your internet, So if you don't have a decent internet speed you will be struggling. Wireless connections don't work well in older properties or larger properties, you can't beat a good cat5 cable.
You are correct the IQ cameras don’t stream at 4K - but they use the extra sensor resolution for the HDR feature and also for something called supersight where the camera automatically zooms in on motion it detects and uses the algorithm for face recognition.
As far as Wi-fi signal goes; that’s down to the rubbish routers you were given by your internet company. If your signal drops or doesn’t reach certain areas of your house you need a better router. I’d personally recommend a mesh router system.
There is no information on the IR range of the cameras, as a lot of the time the things you want to see will be happening at night.
Outside our house is pretty much pitch black without the floodlight on. The nearest street light is in the top right of the picture there is only 1 light in the road. Yet the night performance is excellent thanks to the very high power IR LED's 30m range. Have a look at that video I posted earlier.
Your correct on saying that there is no information on the range as the range is effected as you said yourself by what’s around the camera and the quality of the sensor. You will find that the quality is as good as your going to get and class leading.
The cameras I have are 4K and provide 2688 x1520 resolution at 20fps or lower resolutions at higher frame rates.
The Nest camera has some nice features but if CCTV is what you need it wouldn't be my choice.
4K HDR POE
IP camera with 30m IR £79 IP67 weatherproof . There is a link to the datasheet

My response here is again one of quality - there is no way that the image quality is comparable with the Nest cameras. You may think that it would be but it is not.
Looking at your video you posted that’s pretty good night vision but not as good as Nest Cam outdoor IQ at 1080p.
Again don’t get me wrong. You may not want to spend that much on cameras, you may not want a new router, you may not want to pay a monthly charge for recording. But these are simply examples of us choosing what’s important to spend money on. And if your reason is you can’t afford it (in general) or don’t feel it’s worthit then that’s your choice and you ultimately decide what you purchase.
What I can tell you is that Nest cameras receive updates in the cloud and features are added regularly and they can control other things in your home as well. So your getting premium build and quality and image excellence about what any standard CCTV system can do currently.
