sorry to discuss this subject again...i heard there was a recall on 2000-2002 1.8T engines so should audi replace the coil packs if one or all 4 coilpacks failed??
i have all audi service except for the last service which was done a by a specialist

anyone shed any light?
thanks

Just as a side note campbell, is this to do with your power loss over certain revs? I read in your last post that the problem went when you turn the remap off. Could you not speak to the people who did the map and see if they can sort it for you?

Just an idea mate, hope you get it sorted.

cheers Pete. when i turn the map off and back to stock mode, the problem rarely comes back and hesitates. in other words its less aggresive.

i have bought a coil pack and will try and replace it in cylinder 1 and then go for a drive and see if it cures it. if not i will repeat the process with cylinder 2,3,4. its a good method if only 1 coilpack has failed, or none have failed so worth a go.

i have spoke to preston audi and they said my car wasnt recalled due to the problem with the coilpacks- whether they were saying this because there unhelpfull and wanted to steal my money!

if all else fails i will speak to the company who did the map

thanks for the advice people

When my last coilpack went, it ran better at 0.9bar boost than than the full 1.45bar. With the boost controller switched off and on the lower setting it was driveable but hesitant. On full boost it coughed and spluttered over 4000rpm. Sound familiar? I think mine was more a partial failure than the usual misfiring style of failure.

Audi replaced all of my original coilpacks under warranty. Only one gone since then.

Coilpacks have been hit and miss with me - one replaced for free, the other charged for coilpack and half and hour for fitting (wasn't happy). Now carry a spare coilpack in the car for when the next one goes. At least fitting is free with the AA!

Just came home in my car tonight and it seems I may have this problem too.

car gets to about 3k in 2nd gear and starts to splutter along with the check engine light. (would that be a symptom)

Typical, I need to be up at 5:30 tomorrow to drive 120 miles to APS for service !

Hope it gets me there ok

could be coil packs but sounds more like an airmass meter, you say it gets to 3k, when a coil fails it will judder and run rough all the time.

Last time I had one go I left the car undrivable, CEL flashing too. The car stank of sulphur, obviously the fuel just wasnt getting burnt and running into the cat. I allways carry a couple round with me now just incase.

It runs rough from 3k onwards if I accelerate.

When I switched it off and drove very lightly (not much load), it seems fine.

I've just searched the forum and it seems coil packs do exhibit that type of fault, so fingers crossed it will be that.

I'll take it easy for the drive there, if it get stoo bad i'll call the RAC out, from memory, I beleive they carry them on board. (called them out to my wifes GTi around a year ago and he told me its a common problem on the 1.8 engine, although it wasn't that fault then, but a flat battery due to her leaving the lights on......)

sorted mine last night, turns out the coilpack in cylinder 1 needed replacing.

if anyone has this problem get the coilpacks checked!

thanks for the advice from everyone, now the car is back to running right i cant stop smiling! god bless REVO

Mine was number 1 too :)

(but it failed on the way to APS at 5:30am this morning 5 miles after leaving my house)

Got recovered to Audi dealership, waited in their car park till 8am, bought one as soon as they opened and then went to APS.

Even though I turned up 2 and a half hours late, the guys still completed my 40k service, Haldex fluid and filter, Cambelt replacment, fitted my cruise control, and MOT'd it too. Fantastic service.
Also replaced the remaining 3 coil packs too so I should have no more hassle from them for awhile
It was recommended toreplace the lower front arms, so also took the opportunity to get the R32 ARB kit fitted at the same time........sssshhh, dont tell the missus ;)

Its improved the car loads, well worth the extra wedge.

APS - Great bunch of guys, I've never been so happy parting with just over £1500. thank you :)
