Wow!!

I’ve run my car as per audi instructions, and had the oil and filter changed for one fukids and filter.

Here are my observations.

Filter - full of swarf, red flecks, yellow flecks and doing its job.

Oil - absolutely black as hell, exactly like cutting paste. For 1500 miles, really really bad.

Oil voluume - 6.8L of black crapy oil cane out via the dipstick port. Using a vacuum pump. 6.8L!?!?! Wtf. No, this is not a mistake, this is exactly what came out. And of course I only had 5L of new stuf. As per everyone’s instructions online lol

Not sure what’s changed but it’s another litre to reach the top of the dipstick line.

Hope it helps.

Absolutely gobsmacked that the engine oil in a new, petrol engine after just 1,500 miles was black. I would have expected it to still look quite clean :crying:

@Aspen
Did you take your A3 to the main dealer l have run my S3 in like yourself 15,500miles i need a oil and fillter change after reading your post

I have now covered over 2k in mine and the oil is still fairly clean.

Just had mine replaced at 13k for the first time and the oil still looked ok, a bit black but still ok consistency wise.

@Aspen
I mean 1,500 miles excuse my sausage fingers lol

I think I would be keeping an eye on the oil on the dipstick very carefully and changing the oil and filter again in a hundred miles or so if it got black again quickly. Quite worrying there is swarf in the oil too. Something is not right there.

Yea would tend to agree, swarf in the filter and thick oil after 1500 miles, sounds like something serious going on in there..

If I could see my oil had swarf or had a slate grey look to it I would be seeking assistance from Audi

Somethings wrong i did my golf r last year at 2k miles and running stage 1 for 1k of they miles to change with millers nano and nothing in filter or oil even checked inside filter

Hmmmm, I'm far from an expert but that is not right.....not after only 1500 miles.

I think I'd be knocking on the door of my local dealership and insisting they look at it.

A lot of wrong information going around here ‍♂️

These days in cars its usual for oil to go black after a thousand miles in petrols, and even less in diesels. Swarf in the filter? That’s what it’s their for and thats why it can be beneficial to change it after running in

You sound like a service advisor I’m used to ;)

“Totally normal Sir”... what the puddle of water in my brand new rear taillight?... “Yes sir, they aren’t a totally sealed unit”.... well they are sealed! “Let me find another one to show you it’s the same..... 5 minutes later, I can’t find one but it’s totally normal sir”.

Useless turds.

I think calling them useless turds is giving them more credit than they deserve.

The words “lying turds” are more appropriate.

I’m always nice to you, you’re a rare breed ;) Honest haha, 99% are rubbish and have no understanding of cars. But I suppose they are just there to relay information most of the time, having an understanding just makes the job easier for you.

Sorry been suffering with the worst of norovirus since I wrote the post :-(

The oil colour, to be honest is no worse than my 997 when it was running in. And the swarf is exactly what I’d expect to see in the filter during the run in. Hence why I always change the oil around 1200-1500 miles.

What shocked me was the 6.8L that came out.

I have said this before. I also change my oil/filter around 1500 miles on a new car......a year IMO is way too long regardless of a manufacturer's recommendation and 2 years is bonkers.

If you really don't rate any service department maybe you should start up your own independent service garage and show them how it should be done!!!

Try to be a little more constructive or at least be fact and data based in your replies

Not enough business for it and I’m in the wrong trade, well.. right trade but wrong to service cars.

I rated the customer service very highly at my local Audi dealer, cup of coffee and biscuit served by female in short skirt :cupcake: whereas BMW just a coffee from a chap wearing too much aftershave :sadlike:

That does not make any sense if you think 99% of the service sector is rubbish

Starting up an on the side of the road business isn’t going to drag all of the custom out of Audi. People will always still continue to use Audi for the same reason I do, warranty and resale value.

I’d love to use my local independent because I know the car will be looked after properly. BUT, I don’t want any hassle with warranty or resale.

I don't think it hurts resale at all, cars like S3's, RS3's and the equivalent with any other make are usually bought by the same type of people.

They'd probably be as happy with a specialist stamp as they would a dealer stamp, it not happier.

Same with warranty, if they use genuine parts then there's no worries with that either.

The Audi Specialist that just bought my car, specifically asked if it had Audi history.

You will always have less trouble with warranty and goodwill if it’s serviced with Audi. It’s awful because I know my car will be treated better at the Specialist.

Don't want to resurrect the old car issue but warranty is respected at any independent so long as it conforms to the law, as for goodwill I nearly choked when I read your comment that the dealers give you less trouble in the long run. Did I imagine all of the problems you have had, including their reluctance to sort it out even though you are paying top dollar for your cars?

There are things such as goodwill. 2 years out of warranty and a gearbox goes pop, Audi may offer to pay 50/50. My Dad battled with Audi to have the balance shaft issue sorted on his 9 year old A4 2.0TDI. Audi agreed to pay half I believe, but it still would have cost more to have it done at Audi than an independent.

A friend lost his warranty on his RS3 for modifications, gearbox went pop... he had to pay for the box but Audi paid for all of the labour.

The situation with my S3 was just absolute s***. Totally ruined the experience and I’m a ****** idiot to still be buying another. Audi UK promised to call me back last Wednesday, because when the car came back and then subsequently sold it was still the same. Never had a call back, I’m in work until Thursday. If they don’t call by then, I will be on the phone and I got angry last time, they’re about to see a whole new side... absolutely totally p*****. But, trying to not let it get in the way of the RS3.

Not to belabour a point. I think the dealer you use may have a badly managed service department. The dealership I use are professional, courteous, and have trained competent mechanics with the equipment to deal with the issues of modern day cars. AuddiNutta, you have stated numerous times the issue you have had with your S3 and you then went to a different dealer and then proceeded to have the same complaints as you had with the original dealer. Sometimes, these complaints arise from a customer who is impatient and may lose their cool and result in a fractured relationship.
Of course, a dealership is going to cost more with the overheads they have to endure, but I will still use my dealership because of the relationship that has developed over the years. The Audi dealership is the specialist as they only deal with Audi cars and your "specialist" deals with more brands

Of previous years I have been inpatient, but with the S3 over the last few months I’ve given them more than enough time. In 2 weeks they replaced two lots of steering rack mounting bolts and told me the car was fixed both times, the first I was able to prove it wasn’t.. the second time I didn’t have that opportunity. I took the car away, within a week it started clunking again and when reported to the dealer and Audi UK, neither could be bothered to even return a phone call. So the car has been sold with the same problem, oh well... not my problem now. Not happy it’s gone that way, but if Audi can’t be bothered to acknowledge it, why should I? It will only end up back in their system anyway.

I’m undecided whether to use the supplying dealer of the RS or one of the previous two I’ve had issue with before for service. I’ve got a year to decide before it needs a service, I’m in no rush to decide. There is one main reason I don’t use the one, if you want to PM me I’m happy to tell you why and I think then you will appreciate how significant this reason is. Of course we have many more, we have 4 Audi’s and for all Cars I could list problems we have had. Some are bad customer service, some are charging for work that hasn’t been done, fobbing off crystal clear warranty issues because they don’t have time (sorted by another dealer in a matter of hours and hassle free). The dealer I use now has been really good with the S3 up until the last and 3rd time it went in, when they had a t** full of it.
