Camshaft position sensor is the only one that concerns me, is this just another name for the crank sensor? Also what does no signal mean, that its bust or that it may have become disconnected?

The car has this fault intermittently, sometimes it will run rough for a day or two then be fine for months, cleared this same code once 6 months ago and its never came back until now,

any advice apreciated

Also, if anybody has ETKA etc then could you tell me where this sensor is lol.

Hi,
I think you'll find your problem is related to the ignition system rather than the Crank sensor. Dizzy's usually have a Hall sender/sensor fitted.

What engine is in your A3?

EDIT* You might be Lucky - check your engine for a disconnected Plug or visable wiring damage

Steve

its a 1.6, think your right and it is in the distributor - i'm going to check the wirign at the weekend as it seems strange thats the fault only occurs very rarely. If all is well im assuming the distributor is simple enough to replace?

Hi,
The 1.6 should have a seperate coil, but i dont know if the Hall sender is integral or seperate.

Integral - inside the Ignition Coil
External - Possibly mounted in the Plenium chamber (Inlet manifold area)

G40 (Hall sender) has 3 electrical connections:

PURPLE/YELLOW PIN 76 CONTROLLER
PURPLE/RED +
BROWN/BLUE -

Edit* almost forgot, check the plug/socket contacts for a good connection seeing as the fault is intermittant

Hope this Helps
Steve

The cam and crank sensors are completetly different. If it says there is a fault with the camshaft position sensor it is not another word for the crankshaft sensor. Could be why it is not revving properly if the camshaft sensor is tempermental as this is what controls the timing of the engine.

Yeah i realised they were different after reading into it a bit, think im gonna just check all the connections and see how i get on with that at first, is a right pain in the *** cos i cannot be bothered doing anything to it right now!

At least itll be parked up over christmas while i drink myself silly

Fitting location for 3-pin connector for phase sensor (Hall sender) -G40 .
Look for the fuel supply rail. At the driver's side, just above the alternator and next to the fuel supply/return pipes, and fuel regulator, you will see an electrical connector. Thats the connection point for the hall sender which is used to synchronize spark and Simos fuel injection. Its probably just a bad connection at that connector. Disconnect and clean (WD40 or electric contact cleaner should work). If this doesn't cure your problem you may need to replace hall sender.
Good luck.
