I have a superb, low mileage 2009 A4 Avant S Line 3.2 L Quattro, bought for its poke, build quality and great shape but am getting a little disenchanted with its hard ride. Is it practicable to soften it?

Smaller alloys/bigger tyres.
Cushions on the seats.

Thanks Jake. I'll have the suspension checked and will investigate the higher profile tyre option.
Only thing with just changing the tyre size is the speedo will be a bit out, probably not much but there's a few calculators kicking about to work it out like this https://tiresize.com/tyre-size-calculator/ I always use stuff like that when going for bigger/smaller alloys too 
s-line suspension on most a4 B7's does tend to be lets just say " a bit on the firm side" a lot of owners just upgrade to better dampers / springs etc to improve the situation, that way you don't have to spoil the great looking profile of the B7 with taller tyres and smaller rims etc....
