Cheers mate I understand a little better now.No, the 8.5J is the width in inches of the wheel.
Adding spacers changes the offset not the width.
The wheels are et56 without spacers as you've stated. Adding 10mm spacers reduces the offset to et46. It doesn't change the width of the wheel. The lower the offset number is the further in mm the wheel will stick out the arch.
I reccomend going no bigger than 225 width tyres as you'll have rubbing issues otherwise.

Wont 225/40/18 rub like crazy with the 10mm spacer on wouldn't 205/35/18 be a better fitment or 225/35/18??
