Whats the lowest ET number you can get away with on a 50/40mm lowered a3 with an 18" x 8.5J rim before it rubs?

ET45 is around the right region if you are prepared to play with tyre widths/camber/spacers etc.

Mine are sitting fine on ET44 with 8.5J and 225/35 R19s

that looks spot on! how much is it lowered? got any more pics from the side etc?

It's on 25mm H&R springs, but that's down from S3 standard height, someone will be able to tell you the relative drop from SE and S-Line. There's a few side-on pics on my photobucket, and in my gallery on here.
