Oil Filter Size on 1.9tdi

Hi all

Looking for confirmation really -

I tried to change the oil on my wife's 2003 1.9tdi yesterday but I got snookered at the first hurdle...

The oil filter tool that I was using (basically a cap that sits on the filter and you place a wrench in the middle to turn) didn't fit. I was confused because I could have sworn mine was a genuine tool (bought from a VW dealer a few years ago), but it did not fit. It was too big.

I have done some quick research online and noticed that there are two sizes available. I think 74mm and 76mm are the two sizes. Am I right in thinking that it is the 74mm that I need.

Can anyone confirm or advise which tool they use for the removal of an oil filter.

Get's the job done and it won't matter if you have 74 or 76mm or even 200mm filter cap.
