Morning all.

Well i decided to drive to rome at the start of the week in my 2.0 tfsi quattro 55 plate all well getting here but now starting to come back. I went to over take someone yesterday and as i did there was like a pop or a give way in the boost. Now the car sounds like i have a ****** pigeon in the turbo and i have bo boost. I plugged in the obdi bluetooth thing that i have and its coming up with error code P0304 which i believe is a misfire but i dont no why this would effect the boost. The engine light came on for a little while but now has turned off. My oil was low so ic topped that up. When it first happend every time i got to about 3k revs it would feel like it would stall. Now i dont no if this is all related or i have two different problems but if any one could help that would be great.
Tha ks in advance ash

Sounds turbo related to me, have you had a quick look under the bonnet at the turbo hoses, intake hoses ect, is there any smoke from the exhaust?

Theres no smoke, no oil leaks no rips in any hoses. The turbo looks fine. Also the noise has disappeared. Just still have a turbo lag and the juddering.

If you have white smoke coming out of the exhaust, the turbo has popped. If you have grey or black smoke then an intercooler hose has come off/split/holed or the turbo vanes are sticking due to a lot carbon gunk.

If no smoke, then the ignition system is playing up, your fault code seems to support this as well.

i see that the fault code says the coil packs need replacing. But i dont see how this will effect the turbo lag

If all cylinders are not firing correctly, then this may give the impression the turbo is playing up. Anyone who has had old cars that have not had regular spark plug changes will know what that sounds and feels like. Faulty individual coil packs will also give the same symptons. Was you aware of the coilpack recalls over the last 5 years on VAG motors? thousands have failed. Only sure way to find out the problem is by substitution of the coil packs by a main dealer or Audi specialist.

Im unaware of the last coil change i'll have to check with audi. Every now and then in 4th it puffs out white smoke for a short duration. I had a look underneath and theres oil around the DV when i went to top it up i could see there was a bit of carbon build up. I still have have the tiniest bit of boost. This is what makes me think the turbo hasnt completely gone.

No still stuck in belgium. The turbos blown. Trying to drive it back. Ive used about 10L of oil in about 400 miles. The red oil lights came on a couple of times. Does anyone have a turbo for sale?

Finally made it back after a hellish jorney and the tyre blowing out 20 miles from home. Had the car in the garage they took the rocker cover off and looks all good in there they said but after taking the tubo hose of there was tons of oil sitting in there with loads of metal shavings in there. Now they said they could replace the turbo but there still could be an issue after but i dont see how. Not sure whether to get the garage to replace the turbo were they said it would cost £1500, give it a go at replacing it myself (is it simply bolt on and off, would i need ramps?) Or cut my losses and sell for cheap? Any help would be great.

Replacing the turbo is easy enough, but you would be better stripping out the intercooler & pipe work and cleaning it out, bet the 10+ litres of oil is sat in the intercooler & pipe work, also metal from the damaged turbo.

I would just flush it out, find a big container and fill with a water based degraissant & water and leave it for a few hour and flush it out with a hose do the same with the pipe work until it's clear. I would also pull the spark plugs and check to see if they are covered in oil, it could have been the cause of the misfiring.

Metal bits would have circulated around the intercooler circuit, they do need careful flushing out. I paid £1650 for a new Audi sourced turbo and all the work was done at AMD Technik. Your £1500 quote is about right as long as it is a new new turbo.

Doing it yourself, Google it, also look on Youtube

Finally gave up trying to sell the car. So, im going to do it up a little. I have removed the hose from the turbo to the intercooler and ther was **** loads of oil so im going to strip it all out clean it up. First things first is sourcing a turbo now i have a stage 2+ daily clutch and lightend flywheel so hopefully this supports up to around the 300bhp mark as this is what im going to head for. My question now is what turbo would be best for this and what other mods would i need. As theres loads of oil around the intercooler system would it be best to get rid of it and get a front mount or clean it out?
Many thanks
Ash

You'll always get a little oil around the intercooler pipes, that's normal. if you remove your existing intercooler matrix and pipes you can fill it up with Jizer or similar then blast it all out with water from a hosepipe.

right today i started the car with the turbo to intercooler hose off and there was hardly any smoke whats so ever. there was oil coming out of the turbo once i took it around the block but when it was stationary there was no oil leaking and once the car warmed up there was no more smoke until it was revved up. before i go straight in and replace the turbo could there be any other solutions? i have seen that it could be the pvc but i replaced that 7K ago and i don't get any random revs. So instead of replacing it again I'm thinking of blanking it off, can i just blank it off or do i need a catch can and does anyone have a guide to fitting this?
thanks in advance

If you have oil from the turbo stop driving it! You'll be throwing oil into the engine bay and all over the road, also you're lucky the turbo spline didnt get into the piston chambers and if they did you'll be looking at big repair bills, i'd replace the turbo asap! I'm astounded it got you home if i'm honest.

Take the advise above, change the turbo and go from there!

Ok a bit worried now so i wont start it up again in looking at getting the K04 S3 turbo for it and all the supporting mods. What extras will i need for this to fit to mine. Also this might be a stupid question but if i put this turbo straight onto mine will the car work normally or will i have to get it mapped to work as in i still need to drive places
