If its APY then its won't be VVT... so in your favour this will be cheaper... my mistake I was under the impression yours was a later S3
However... as it is a non VVT I suspect that the 16396 code is symptomatic of the 16727 code... I would suggest that its worth changing the cam position sensor for a known working one (borrowed or bought)... can't vouch for the pattern items but they 'should' work ok...
If the 16727 code goes but the 16396 one comes back then the cam chain tensioner could be on its way out... these are just over £100 from GSF

Spark plugs best to get as getting it ready for a map soon ish but have the whole bottom polybush first then start power
