I have a similar issue with my 2012 DSG. I used to own a 2007 A6 DSG and don't remember having this sort of issue with reverse.
When I engage reverse, I need to apply allot more pressure than I do with 1st gear to achieve the same speed and other times, the car takes a good second or two before it starts moving, seems to lag but not always.
Funny this is mentioned as my S4 is currently in audi for this reason.
9/10 reverse is ok but when reversing up hill I feel like it's slipping and not engaging.
If I put it into reverse quickly and quickly accelerate it sometimes does not respond.
My cure so far has been to allow the car to engage reverse by waiting then applying pressure on the accelerator.
I plugged it into vagcom and a selector fault came up but audi haven't a solution to the problem, they have sold me it could be the selector switch (which I doubt as we checked that via vagcom), oil seals (didn't go into too much detail) or a fault with the PCB.
I get the car back today so hopefully with a report which I'll scan and post.
And the fault you got on VAGCOM?No issues, purely when reversing. 59k
Sounds exactly like mine. Most of the time it's fine though.Funny this is mentioned as my S4 is currently in audi for this reason.

Interesting. I have noticed this on my 4 week old S4 too.
!
4 weeks old to you or literally brand new 4 week old car?
Sounds extremely expensive?Yep, I've had a mech unit replaced at a £4.6k cost via an Indy...
Sorry, got confused as it had a £1,200 repair to it before I bought it. The unit is £2.6k just by itself, then you have all the oil and gasket, and 8 hours of labour. Total for replacement was £3.4k, if done by Audi add another £600 labour.Sounds extremely expensive?
Luckily a warranty covered me for it though.
That was my understanding as well, so it's either the actuators that were gone on the mech unit, or it's the clutch or the gear itself being the issueThere is only one reverse gear, on sub box 2. R will be pre-selected (as will 1st gear on sub box 1) when the car is in P or N. As soon as you pull away (forwards) sub box 2 will then pre-select 2nd gear.
