Hi All,

I am looking for a bit of advice on the new s3 particularly to previous 8p owners. Basically what I am hoping to find out is how a stage 1 8p (roughly 300bhp) compares to the 8v s3. Audi are giving me the new s3 for the weekend and I have been wanting to upgrade from my diesel pretty much after buying it. I drove the 8p stock and cant say i was very impressed with it. I have since had a shot of a stage 1 and LOVED it. I am amazed at the difference in performance. Now, I think for me the 8v at this moment in time is probably going to be out of my reach (i am still a student) would a stage 1 8p be a happy compromise?

Thanks

****** hell students have a lot more disposable income nowadays!!
I had a stage 1 8P S3 and to be honest it was a machine. Very quick and a totally different animal to standard. I've now got an 8V S3 and again it's a totally different animal than the 8P. Massive step forward in every way, but then again the 8P is based on a 10yr old design.

i should have mentioned i work full time as well and study law in the evenings so a lot of my wages go towards books and uni fees! yeah i was really amazed at the difference stage 1 made. I bought my car with stage 1 map already on it so i didnt get to feel the benefit of it. I get that it is a totally different beast but does it feel that much more impressive to drive in comparison? I thought getting the 8v i would get a better understanding of how 300bhp was to drive as opposed to just the stock 8p.

I guess if you can get a really late registered 8P it would be good and good value if you can get a decent deal. With the new model out now you should be able to get a decent deal on one. My 8P felt a lot more aggressive than my 8V, that was down to the map though. It originally had a GIAC map on when I bought it but soon got rid of that for a Shark Performance map as it was loads smoother. Don't get me wrong the 8P is a great car, especially at stage 1, but the 8V is a massive step forward in every way, technology, engine, handling, quality. Saying that mine will be getting some tuning very soon courtesy of Milltek and Shark. Hoping to see about 380 bhp.

yeah it would be a face lift model for sure and like you say there are going to be some good deals out there to be had due to the new 8v being out. 380 is crazy figures for a hatchback haha! the 8v is stunning i fell in love with it the first time i saw it. After driving the stage 1 I have been on the hunt for one or something of similar performance at the 300bhp range. Anything above that insurance will shred me for. So getting the 8v for a weekend I thought would give me a better insight as to what it's like to live with on a daily basis and in terms of performance would it satisfy my needs? The other alternative is an evo X but the only problem with that is it's not an Audi or even German for that matter which for me would be moving into the unknown. Effectively then the 8v isn't really going to be a decent test against a stage 1 8P. If u were to put them side by side would it be a dramatic difference in power? Surely not that much

Performance wise I'm not sure how much there is in it, no doubt a stage 1 8P is plenty fast enough and side by side when moving there might not be that much difference with them both having around 300bhp.
I've got S Tronic and with launch control sub 5sec is ridiculous to 60. I don't know what the 8P was, maybe 6sec so that's a huge difference. I've already got used to the power which obviously leaves me craving more!
The 8V S3 is almost perfect for me, I just think it needs more power and definitely some 19" wheels which are on my list. The interior is probably the nicest place to be of almost any car, even cars 3 times the price. That is one of the biggest leaps forward I think from 8P to 8V.
With regards Japanese cars, I've had a fewl Subaru's and they are good cars, not sure about the newer ones but the original Impreza's were amazing machines. Although the interiors are absolutely s**te!!

this has been really helpful mate so thanks for your time! according to most websites I have been on the 0-60 between the 2 generations is about 0.5 sec but from what I have seen on the forum people with 8vs have been sub 5 like you say and not 5.5 which is incredible! I know that the 8v is going to be a better package overall compared to the evo and also the 8p but then again it is a lot more expensive than either which is going to be out of my grasp for the time being. A possible outcome of having this car over the course of the weekend that I may just have to be patient and wait until I can get the 8v. Patience isnt one of my strong points however. I want everything yesterday :(

No problem mate, happy to help.
I'm the same. Only reason I ordered an 8V is I got a decent deal from the same dealer I bought my last S3 from (Grimsby Audi) and the monthly payments weren't that much more for a car worth twice as much! I know people say buying outright is the best way but I find PCP's are really good as I don't keep a car longer than 2 years usually, get bored too easily! I might find this S3 stays for the full 4 years though I like it that much! Well until the RS3 comes out anyways ha ha!!
Where you based anyways?

yeah i heard of one of the other guys and some other moving from 8p s3 and ended up going for bmws because the finance deals were so ludicrous! yeah my track record for cars is much the same I get bored very quickly too. I dont actually think I have owned a car longer than a year haha. the pictures of what the new rs3 look like is quite possibly the best looking car I have ever seen but for that kind of money would i rather a gtr? hmmm. based in Glasgow mate. thats where I will be getting the 8v this weekend in sportback s tronic guise! i cant wait. you got pics of your car?

Price is double £20k and £40k, how much do you want to blow with your student loan ?

i dont think even the best spec'd 8v would be near 40k would it? thats more RS3 budget. Nothing I dont have a student loan

You spec one up on the website, I have and its just over 40K

I have a 61 plate MY2012 S3 P8 20k miles which cost me £25k in October fully specced up
If you think its slow at 5.5 you must have been driving some very quick cars

most ones i have seen on audi website etc are around 35k mark. I havent specd one up from new. its not that. it was down to the fact that i had wanted an 8p s3 for so long i think i expected too much from it and having spent a lot of time in my mates gtr it definitely feels slow compared to that!

Porno.

GTR different kettle of fish. Might be reasonably cheap to buy, but running costs are horrendous!

As for £40k that is massively specced up. Mine was £35k with good options what you really want for a drivers car (S Tronic, Super Sports Seats, B&O), I'm not really into all the driver aids really apart from S Tronic which is a masterpiece.

agreed i specd one up there on the website and 33K with everything i could ever want or need

Yep I like highly specced cars

get a GTR then ?

have you not been reading the thread? if 35K for an s3 is out of my reach then anything else at that price or more is certainly not achievable is it?

Cheers! It was that or Monsoon grey but the wife pushed me to white and I'm so glad she did! Looks mega especially with the black styling pack.
Only thing I wish I didn't bother speccing was the wheels, waste of money! Oh well gonna get some 19" BBS CH-R soon in black. It'll look even better then.

yeah i think daytona grey and glacier white/ibis white are my two favourite colours at the moment. it has to be black styling for me not into the chrome scene. thatll look ideal man

No mate but definitely thinking about getting on it. I'm into photography so probably a good idea!

i defintely recommend it man the cars you see on it are class i prob use it more than facebook and twitter now!
