I have took my car to audi to find why it is misfiring, its not plugs or coilpacks but the head has to be taken off :( i know its gona cost over £1k im labor in stripping and putting back together. Has anyone had a new valve if so how much was it from audi? I have told them to go ahead with the job now so no going back. Ive been told a flap in the inlet manifold has possibly snapped off and got in the valves. Also if this is what it turns out to be anyone know cost on these parts and fitted?

thanks

Why did you go to Audi? Their labour rates are sometimes double that of a specialist. Shame you've given them the go ahead before asking the question. Did they not put a camera in the inlet manifold and show you the pics?

because if out was to happen when i have it back off them related to what it went in for in te first place itd be easier to sort with them than a specialist who may not give you a garuntee. I too, it audi in the first to check it. But i had to drive the damm thing about so since it was already at audi i left it with them not wanting to drive it nomore and get it sorted as quickly as possible

Im just biting the bullet and paying the extra £££ to get it sorted there and then since i havent been driving it now for up to 3 weeks

Did they perform a compression test prior to advising cylinder head removal?

With this kind of problem, even an Indy can mis-diagnose or mess up an otherwise good engine by scoring cylinder bores or losing a screw down a port, then still find a way to charge for any rectification work. Not all Garages are created equal...

Yes main dealers are expensive, but the peace of mind you get can sometimes be worth paying extra for ...and they may even throw something in for free - dependent on mileage\service record.

@Jack: Did you buy the car Private or through a Garage, mate? Is it worth going to the seller and making overtures for a contribution toward the repair costs?

Your Craig's Nephew then, Jack? He's been telling me about it all in work! Hope it gets sorted soon, however i did recommend to him that you take it to Riverside Racing in Speke :) For future reference Unit 20 down by me in Neston on the Wirral is an RS & S specialist, he would of been able to sort you out, £55+VAT labour fees too = much much less than Audi!

unfortunatly private. I have said i am never ever going private again though, lesson learnt i surpose. Yh i want a good peace of mind which is why im biting the bullet and going to audi :/ it has had a compression test prior going to audi by another garage and a cylinder did have no compression at all. Audi on the other hand im not to sure they did compressikn test or not, i was told they was going to though when i dropped the keys off, because i did explain to the mechanic that i have been told that and that it was possibly caused by a flap in the inlet manifold

Just have to play the old waiting game now i surpose to see how dry theyre going in lol

Yeah I'm always willing to pay a little extra for one from a dealer, preferably even more for one with a warranty :) Lesson learnt, don't let it put you off owning one, Craig (i presume he is your uncle? and I'm on about the right person haha) was saying you where taking about getting rid.

Once its repaired you will love it again & all you would end up doing it selling a spot on car to someone else & lose loads of money from getting it repaired & selling it on again. They're great cars and for the cash you won't get anything better with as much potential tune-ability for the money!

So yes anyways i have a update on what the problem was/is! The head has been removed and have found that a flap in the inlet manifold has snapped off and got into cylinder 3 which caused the no compression. The head is being took away from audi to a specialist who i sorting it out and have other stuff on my invoice which needs replacing. It is costing me just over £2200 to repair all in inc cambelt and water pump which i said to change at the same time. The list of replacements:Manifold, X4 gaskets, Repair kit, Bolt, Tempsender, O ring, Nut, Sump plug,Filter, Oil, Cambelt, water pump, And labor (meant to be £120 per hour got it £85 per hour)Ive had a look around on the internet including this site and havent seen anything on about this flap snapping off, i take it it isnt a common fault on these and that im just really unlucky? Before anyone says "shouldnt of gone to audi" i have learnt my lesson and going to go a VAG specialist from now on.

£85/hr isn't too bad really, a decent independent specialist would cost about £60ish an hour maybe more, Jack. At least with Audi its a no quibble warranty with all the repairs too, have they given you a courtesy car too? They should have!

As far as I know,it's very uncommon, but has happened on BMW's,Vags etc etc,so it's not confined to one manufacturer. Unfortunately the things do have a function, and the car will start pretty knobbly without them(I know,as I've had them removed)and APR are the only company I know of doing software specific for them being removed.
