I am now in the position to get my 1.8t Avant 190bhp (BEX) remapped.
Before I do there are a few questions that I am unsure of which I hope ou bunch of helpful cats can help with. The engine is stock atm however I have just had a Blueflame Cat back exhaust fitted.

1) Is there a massive difference between the brands of remap? (REVO/R Tech/AMD??) If so which one would people recommend? I have a quote from REVO of £299+VAT and R-Tech at £250inc VAT.
2) Before I have it done, is there any mod I should do first to make the most of it, for example fitting a Forge 008 DV?
3) One it has been done, if I needed to take it to a main stealer/indy, is there a risk they would revert the ECU to stock?

Would appreciate some guidance/help.

Go to r-tech, you won't regret it. You also get dyno runs for £250 which most other companies won't do. Stock DV should be okay, usually just need a panel performance air filter for a stage 1 map.

From what i've read i'd recommend R-Tech too. Not used them, but they always seem to get good reviews.

Doubt independent garages would revert it, probably wouldn't even notice. Dealers will if you're in for a service.

The apr map comes with switchable modes via the cruise control stick. Stock, 95 Ron, 98 Ron, 100 Ron and valet mode I think.

dealers wont wipe the map on a service
only if theres an update for the car
but you tell them its mapped and its all good.

the oem filter is good for a remap no need to change.

Everyone going to think different but ive seen best results with revo bhp wise? Amd are shocking dont bother, if it were me it would be toss up between apr and revo! I went revo and got 242 on stage 2 map! Well worth it and runs sweetttt, pull on my mate with same mods with an apr map! Proof is in the pudding...

Bhp means nothing if its on an inaccurate dyno. Anyways R-tech are cracking 250bhp on a stage 2 map, and can also offer launch control and full throttle gear changes. They are different gravy.

I just rang this r tech and they have just stated to me on a stage 2 you get between 230-240bhp????

The dyno is accurate that i was on and am very happy with my results! Dont throw your toys out your pram because i said revo are decent it is my own opinion and im entitled to it!

Also r tech are revo dealers so why sell another companys maps if theres are so fricking amazing....

Probably because everyone has heard of revo and think they are better? My mate owns a tuning company that offer remaps from one of the big companies, he still recommends R-tech over the ones he can supply.

The real reason he offers revo is that revo offer maps for loads of car engine, Nik specialises in the 1.8t. Say you want a map on your 2.0 tdi and don't want a custom map, then revo would be a safe choice.

Just saying i enjoy my revo map and being fully tuneable via the sps makes it even better, especially when your going water meth and need to adjust fueling as i am! Lots of data logging also shows that mine has minimal timing pull which is not always what you get with custom maps!

Hi Andie,

can you explain what you mean?

Cheers, Rick

I know nothing about engines or remaps, however, one of my mates who's into performance really rates nick both in his customer service and his know how on these engines :), when the time comes that's where I'll take mine.

This comment is from my experience and may not be the same as everyone, just take my friends mk5 golf had a custom remap at amd in essex, came back agter the rolling road and was meausred at 327bhp, when we did some live data logging via vcds we found the timing pull to be exccessive in 3rd and 4th gear. We wasnt jappy with the outcome so he decided to go back to amd few days after and have there ,ap wiped and go for revo, when we left that day car was meausred at 356 bhp which is a large increase on the previous map. In the timing block on the vcds we then logged only a max of 1.45 degrees pull on cylinder 4. Which allowed us to then up the settings via revo tecknics sps software and load it back on to the file. Yu probally no but it allows you to go from 1-9 on your fueling, timing, and boost! We upped boost to 7 and saw even more of an increase in hp when we roaded it the following weekend! He made 365 in the end!
As with my vecchile a4 190 bex we upped boost to 8 with very minimal timing pull max showing 0.19degress on cylinder 4!! If anything the timing could go up slitly more and see more power but then it may not be safe power! And when roaded got 242bhp! Now im tjinking of going water meth to lower intake temperatures and increase boost again! In order for this to run corrctly i will have to adjust fueling to suit and using the sps software to do this! Hope this makes sense im no expert tuner not stating that! Just sating my experience and what has worked for me!
