well time has come to start to think about changing the tomato....

options.

M3 - 19s, sat nav and all the trimmings
Boxster S - not sure about image
2000-2001 996 C2 or C4
m3 CSL

last 2 if this quarter goes really well (which looks like it will happen!)

I went out in a CSL at the ring and round bedford...as quick if not quicker than a 996 GT3!! unreal.

best check insruance as won't be pretty either way!!

looks like I will trade in the S3 as market is just full of time wasters at moment.

NLW

Personally i'd go with the 996, the M3 CSL is great but the porche is a bit more of a head turner IMO

shame your getting rid of the S3 - there does seem to be a load of them for sale on autotrader at the moment

good luck and you'll have to post pics up when you get your new wheels

Mike

If going down the water cooled Porsche route then checkout the Porsche GB forum as there are problems with the engine seals so make sure you go for a warranty and keep it renewed. I've been looking into similar options and I'm still not fully decided on what to do about keeping the S3 or moving on.

HTH

I did think about another skyline...maybe a 550 bhp R34 but image is a bit naff and just mega money to keep at that tune!

CSL is a great car but I need sth for work and long journeys so maybe a bit compormising.

just got an insurance quiote too!! shocker!

so maybe late m3 with sat nav or the 996 dream awaits.

will keep you posted but not likely to happen for few weeks.

nice S3 for sale if anyone wants one!!

NLW

took the CSL out today! jesus christ what a car!

absolutely nothing like the std E46 M3! it just feels alive and makes such an unreal noise with the carbon air panel, diff exhaust and tuning!

bags of grip, grunt, braking and turn in!

it has really focused my opinion of what BMW done here!

they did not just lighten it...they transformed it!

jesus what to do now!

insurance is much higher for the CSL over the C2 996 I am looking at with the aerokit n wheels but is it worth it?

will I really do that many track days to eploit the BMW and do I really want to take it round the ring and hit a wall!

not really. plus the CSL is likely to lose a lot more money over the next 12-24 months. the residuals on the 996s seem to have sorted out.

I think it is going to have to be the 996!!

NLW

personally i dont think the csl is worth it over a normal M3. you loose most of the goodies but pay more. rather the porsche..

Forget the 996, how about a 993 turbo?! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

993 turbo!
fecking mad insurance bills n looking dated.

still another 10-15k on top for a good one with FSH n right colour.

would love one but would never really use all the grunt

plus would lose license in 2 hours!

FACT!!

;-)

car is now on its way in PX.
I got 12k for it in trade in for a 996.

To say I am excited is an understatement as I have always wanted a porker and it is a well sorted car!

99 TCarrera 2
arctic silver with boxter ruffled leather red leather and sports seats
lots of carbon and ali inside to break up the red (looks nuts!)
sports chassis
sports suspension
sports springs
sports exhaust
full GT3 body kit and wheels
uprated filter
rear parking sensors
sat nav, full leather and lots of other bits!

the real best bit was another 300 pounds on top of the S3 to insure. The CSL wwas bags more!!

will post up some pics when it is in my possesion,. bring on the weekend!

WOW - sounds like you have done well... love to see pics of the car - sounds gorgeous!! Be sure to get some interiour shots up too!

(tup) - congrats mate!! My dream has been a porker for some time now... I am only just getting to BUYING an S3 - so a few years to go for me yet!

Did you buy your 996 from a dealer in Slough? If it's the same I looked at it last week and my girlfriend fell in love with it! V.nice car IMO...

no mate
I know the car you mean but bit high mileage and RSJ are quite pricey to say the least!

it looks a lot like that car but bit newer and less miles.

I got it from a mate who is upgrading to a black 996 turbo the lucky git! he is porker mad so I know it has been well looked after as he just spent a few K on it recently with new paint on front and new tyres.

with porsche warranty and full sports kit.

plus it has a 911 private plate which is a bonus as does not age the car.

I will post up some pics.

BTW how the feck do I do it??

Welcome to the 996 club...

You'll love it... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

On that model at that age I doubt it's got PSM...so watch yourself on wet corners...even with 4wd (allegedly) and PSM mine will try to swap ends with little provocation. Great!!

The M3 is good...even great in certain trim...but it's no 911.

yeah the car does has PSM and well aware of how they can bite!

treat them like the old ones....slow in fast out!

if you go in way too quick then that tail will go swing on round!

drove a mate's GT3 which was unreal. brake late before the apex, get her set up then bury the throttle and she flies out!

unreal!!

got some pics up chaps finally....

http://www.theratpac.com/members/nic/

got 12k for the S3 in trade in which was what I was expecting. they just do not seem to be selling but I got the 996 from a friend who has gone for a manic 996 turbo from a mate in the trade.

basically give him the audi plus cash and drive away in the 996!

had a great weekend with the new toy and it does feel special everytime you get in it!

Happy motoring

NLW

Very nice... althought the "pink" interior wouldn't have been my first choice.

yeah the pink is actually boxster red!

my flash got a bit keen ;-)

looks much darker in real life and it sets off well with silver.

yellow porsche?

no thanks.

yellow ferrari or lambo for sure!

only RUF can get away with yellow porkers IMHO.

each to their own which is the great thing!

Yellow Ferrari?
That's just wrong...

Perhaps you should tell Porsche that, who have used Speed Yellow as the flagship colour on their wilder cars for the last 10 years.
GT3?
turbo?
GT2
993 turbo S?
...all shown first in yellow...as was the new Boxter and Cayman.
They all look just fine to me...

Indeedy... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

A Ferrari MUST be in red! It's an unwritten rule!

agreed with Imola

look good in black too.

Ess_Three, is the yellow an option on the porker? does it fetch a bit less in terms of re sell?

just not my choice on a porker thats all.

but you ahve the C4s so all is forgiven! ;-) top bit of kit that is and next on the agenda for me next year I think

Only the GT3 looks right in speed yellow imho. It would be my first colour choice for a GT3. Any other porker, it would have to be seal grey.

Ferrari? Yellow? No way!

Lambo? Yellow? Hell yeah! Or that lime green colour!

from the pics Glen posted when he took delivery of his car I would say /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yes.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bravo.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif

The car just looked right, they also look good in black and grey but there booooring!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/sleep.gif

This coming from someone that never wanted a yellow car and has now had a yellow s3 with a yellow interior for 2 years /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh_roll.gif

Lambo? Yellow? Hell yeah! Or that lime green colour!
