I've had the account for a while but was stuck between an A3, Golf and a Bora, 1.8t or tdi....
dilemmas....
I granduated from college earlier this year in mechanics and landed my self a full time job as a mechanic earning alot more money than delivering pizza's hahaa good times! So got abit of saving going and was just waiting for something to come up in my price range until an 01 A3 popped up with a blown turbo for £650! I emailed the guy within hours of it going up and got it for £500 
I got it recovered to my work and took the turbo off and sent it away to get recon'd and made into a hybrid. Got it back and unblocked the oil pick up and it's pulling like a train atm
The best part of £500 is the elec Recaro seats and been mapped at 212bhp (apparently)
had to get a dent sorted, a bit of bubble rust on the roof seals, the rear bumper needing respraying and sent it to the cleaners..
and this is how it stands so far
Getting it remapped to go with the hybrid turbo in the week so I know it's running right. Can't really go too mad with power being fwd lol
Looking for a TT ARB atm as well and will get coilovers to go on with the ARB. REALLY needs suspension because it takes off like a sh*ting dog atm ha!
The usual silicone TIP and maybe other bits and some induction set up and new DV, plus down pipe and decat because the cat is dead
plus needs lower arms soon and possibly new rear axle bushes. poly bushes ftw
AND will get the black skirting colour coded and possibly smoothed in
Low and smooth is the aim
