I want to make this awesome car even more awesome!

Warranty denial scares me so much though!

Who has thrown caution to the wind and gone for it anyway??

i've done it fella, and a lot of other people have too. just go for it if you really want to it does improve it loads. at the end of the day its your decision. in my opinion its well worth it!

If you're that worried you can use a superchips bluefin and take it off when it's due servicing, but you really shouldn't be using the stealers for servicing, as the vast majority of them don't know the difference between a dv and a divvy!

Pretty much everyone has!
It's very easy for the dealer to find the map if they want to,and I did consider that myself, but a few years down the line, the car has been totally reliable, even with twice the original power....enjoy it.

Remapped my S3 2 days after picking it up with only 280 miles on it. I then did 1000 miles of breaking the car and map in....and it totally transforms the car. This is the 2nd S3 I've had that has been mapped and its a totally different car to drive. Power increase is great, its a lot smoother and the power delivery is fantastic. If your worried about warranty issues most reputable companies such as Revo, Shark and Bluefin supply portable devices that hold both the performance map and original map so you can swap them over if and when necessary. As stated in S3Alex post dealers can detect IF a car has been mapped. While it may not be physically apparent it is relatively easy to find out by comparing the contents of the ECU with a standard one, by verifying the checksum (a value calculated against the contents of the ECU), and by taking the vehicle for a test drive and taking some logs of the data provided by the ECU. I have one of these portable devices supplied by Shark and my car has been in once for some warranty work. 15 mins to swap over the maps and voila........work carried out and everyones happy.

The engines are pretty reliable on these anyway, & with a remap such as Sharks that isn't too harsh the engine & components will still be as reliable as if it were standard.

As brodster said, If you are concerned with warranty issues, you can buy the handheld devices to get round this :)

As mentioned. There are a few Shark dealers on here, so if you are interested give me a shout. I'm in Manchester, so not too far from you.

And another facts is if your car does go pop audi need to prove it that the remap caused the problem. This is what the Warranty manager told me at my local Audi garage. There's a RS6 with MTM tuned to 700+bhp and has full Audi warrenty. Revo maps are not transferable as it turns down certain factors in the map but shark switch box actually swap maps over. But a stage 1 remap does no harm to the main car, just increase slight above normal wear on the standard clutch (if you drive it like ad it's been stolen). But apart from that u should be fine bro. As mark has said, completely transforms the car. Google brotek performance they do shark performance remaps A* service from them. My current s3 and previous was mapped by them. :)

Pretty happy with shark now. I'd go for them.

The thing is,there's Revo,Shark,APR,and a host of others who can do this.
Shark are very popular over here at the moment due to the number of dealers etc,but you should make up your own mind, and pick the best compromise of local dealership, word of mouth, and sales backup.
I chose Revo as they're the only company currently offering the experience and software for what I wanted, plus the backup on cars of that power.

Well said! +1

And about this warranty.

The way I see it is, Audi give us this as they know, the chances of something going wrong in the first 3 years is very slim. But This acts as a good selling point for Audi.

It doesn't include wearing parts anyway like the clutch. which yes the remap will affect, but you've got to pay for that at some point anyway.

So for something to go majorly wrong you've got to be very unlucky. As previously said, they are strong engines.

If for any reason your windows stop working or the rns-e stopped working, Audi are still going to fix it under the warranty, it's not affected by a remap!

Go for it. it's got to be done. it's a bit of a slug without it to be honest.

I'm really tempted to do this, but I too am petrified of screwing my warranty or something big going wrong and having to stump up for it. As the car's on a PCP, if I ****** the warranty I could in theory shaft myself for the whole thing...

Ok, now the killer question, asking on here so I get the balanced view not the salesman's opinion! We do relatively low mileage (I am guessing at around 10,000 miles pa), it is mainly commuting but with the odd blat or long haul trip involved. With careful looking after, will a remap cause me any probs at all?

All it needs is oil, fuel and water.

Drive it flat out at whatever stage. it's still going to be reliable.

I drove my previous 8P S3 like I stole it for a good 15-20k at stage 1. didn't miss a beat! apart from a new clutch...the map was aggressive...

I got my current S3 in march. brand new. I've done 9k at stage 2. it's driven hard all day long. No worries.

Thank you mate! I'm definitely tempted, just as I say with the car being on PCP it could cause problems (in theory!!)

Mine had it's first remap at 10 000 miles, and again at 20 000 and finally about 35 000,and has gone from stock to somewhere over 500bhp.

I do around 12 000 miles a year, and the car has been totally reliable......as mjr says though,it needs regular oil, water and plugs,at intervals far shorter than Audi's long service thing, and if you remap it,fit a catch can,as the intake valves will get gummed up with crap.

I can see why you'd worry whilst being on PCP, I am too, but luckily I have 2 other cars to drive incase it does go wrong. But it hasn't, and I don't invisage it either. Dare I say it, these S3's are pretty bullet proof.

Get it Shark'ed or Revo'd and in the extremely rare chance it goes Pete Tong then just have it flashed standard and then send it in? that's my plan if something goes pop.

Simples

mine is quite moddified and still got a year of warranty left. but i dont bother, as someone said before, theese engines are strong so with a good quality map it will be all fine.
oh...and one more thing... i love my car the way it is now :D

Hey guys, not quite in line with the thread but worth mentioning. I just purchased a 2004 A3 3.2 V6 - I owned one previously and this one felt much faster than my previous one. Only problem being that unless you are aggressive with the accelerator on the current one it feels really uncomfortable to drive - i can only iken it to bad clutch control on a manual. I took it to my local Audi specialist who couldnt find anything and said he thought it had been mapped previously. As I don't know the history of the map, can anyone let me know how i get this back to standard factory condition please? Thanks.

Unfortunately, any OBD flash can be detected even when it goes back to standard. The only real way to get the ECU back to standard in the future is to remove it and read it on the bench which is a what we tend to do on the newer cars. We keep an image of the original ECU as a backup.

What he said.

Always treat a remap as something obvious to a dealer.

That said, anything over Stg1 is usually pretty obvious anyway!

Thanks for all the input guy's! Well.............. I'm going to do it!

Quick question, I have a DSG box, does that need anything doing to it? I was told a while ago that I do but I am not sure if that was map specific? Currently thinking either Shark or Revo.

I know shark have a good map for DSG cars, and it all depends what u want mate. Few of my mates have revo and it's very aggressive to drive (but it can be turned down) good map tho, but I also have the shark map and is ideal for town driving and fuel consumption is great. I used 1 tank of fuel last week roughly 20miles per-day. Driving normally not like a granny. I would say shark maps are better then revo, but that's my opinion. As said in my previous post. Check out Brotek Performance they deal with shark and can offer nice discounts if asked nicely hehe.. Just say ilim from ASN referred you hehe.

How much are we talking for a remap? Iv been quoted £350 for a bluefin chip, £300 for an auto logic, £250 for a 'map' (no branding) and it seems awesome gti are doing s deal of £150 for a map.

Just wondering what everyone else is paying? Awesome is obviously the most attractive as they have a few testimonials on here aswell but I can’t see how they are charging such a low price when i have been quoted double at most other places

In theory mate you get what you pay for. The cheapest isn't necessarily the best and neither is the dearest. Look for reputation and after sales support and development. To get the Shark map including the DSG you would need to take a trip to Shark HQ in Nottingham where they would be more than happy to book you in to carry out the work including the RR session to ensure the DSG map is coping with the added power. If you go down that route then you will require the STS, ECU map and DSG map. I can guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Hey Mark, it's Tom, I spoke to you a couple of weeks ago :)

Will be in touch soon :)

Hi again, I posted on here last night re trying to get my car back to factory state - i.e. before it was re mapped before the last owner from an unknown garage somewhere!!

Anywho, Ive just spoken to Audi Leeds who tell me there is no way I can take it back to its original state as there are no "upgrades" available for my vehicle - they tell me they cannot just flash the ECU?

Does this sound right? Any help would be greatly appreciated as all i want to do is get rid of this remap and have it back to factory condition though i don't know where the map was done int he first place so can't take it back there.......

Thanks

Long shot, you never know one of the guys and girls on here might have owned it before.

Post the last 3 digits on the reg and you could be on to a winner.

+1 on Shark ECU map and DSG map's. I am happy with mine and yes I most definitely am whittling about the warranty but it's too late now! Lol.

Just enjoy it.....I worried about the warranty on mine a bit,but the engine is strong, and other bits like the clutch aren't covered anyway.
