Hey guys, just a question to anyone running coilovers on your b6..

Got weitec coils on mine as some may know, now.. if you check this pic (not mine)

The adjuster on the rear coilovers (bit you put the c-spanner on to higher/lower) is up the top where i've circled in red... and really hard to get to!!! :\

Now i've been told by numerous other audi owners (a3's, b7 a4's) that the adjuster is at the bottom....got me curious haha... :S

Jd

When i had my AP's the rear spring adjuster platform was up top also.

I'm pretty sure mine is at the top on my KW's as well, I'll double check tomorrow.

My H&R coilies have them at the bottom.. when I fitted them I tried them both ways found em better at the bottom

Mine will go both ways round but Ive put them at the top for easier access to adjust

I was speaking to Venom about a little idea i have. Watch this space.. jd26 who fitted your coilovers here in Wales.

I had them done at the garage i've always used in llansamlet buddy - no specialist or anything though.

What you been onto them about bro ? ;) I need to adjust one of my rears!! I tried the other week - seemed like it turned down but has done nothing :(

When i had mine i was always checking the level's as i also thought that one side was higher/lower than the other. Jack the car up and give them a good spray with wd40. Have you got double locking ring's at on the rear's. With regard's to the Venom phone call I am looking to lower the car more come show time (your fault) but without the ball ache of coilover's but still 100% adjustable at the rear's

Haha Sorry Coll! My bad! :p sounds interesting though bud hope you sort something!

Yeah I did give it a good spraying and it seemed to turn but.. nothing :( Been told I may need to drop the arm on one side for more ease... sounds a bit scary though ha

Hey guys, whats everyones ride like? Im currently running sport suspension and im looking to move accross. I've put 19's on and im still happy with the ride..

Sorry to hijack!

Cheers
Graham

Coilover's (some of) will give you a good ride quality and comfort depending on how well built the unit's are, don't expect great thing's from a budget item's. I ran AP's for a very short time but they were making all sort's of crazy sound's. I now run eibach spings and shock's combo which is nice but the option of droping/ lowering the car to the floor is no more, but I have a plan that will give me the best of both world's i'm just collecting part's at the moment. Running 19's is fine with coilover's, hold on to your money for a little bit longer as you may like the idea i have..

OK, this sounds intersting.

I was looking at AP, but now im considering Eibach Springs..

So how long do we have to wait....?

I will keep you posted along with part's required.

Sorry to resurrect and old thread, but I've just had some JOMs fitted to my B6, and the garage have sent me a pic and found that the rear is sat really high... higher than standard. They are wound all the way down, but no joy. I'm thinking I just need a tank of fuel, maybe some weight in the back and let them settle. Anyone had similar issues when first fitting them?

if the cars sitting higher than standard it'll take more than a tank of fuel to fix.

you say wound all the way down? are you sure they aren't all the way up, at their highest setting?

are these the correct items for your car? fwd/quattro?

It may sound obvious but as carl says, check they arnt wound all the way up in error as the garage that did mine started winding one of the rears the wrong way, I gave him a slap haha.

Sadly ones still margionally higher than the other :\

But what benefit have you got over what you have with usual coilovers? Sorry, am I being daft?

I have had coilovers (AP) before and could not get on with them, the front's were to crashy and the car felt awful up front along with some crazy noises. I went with eibach pro sport and all is well now, but i'm looking to drop the car a little more for the coming shows so for me it's a tried and tested mod (by others) so i will have the benefit of adjusting the rears along with the extra 15mm drop when coupled with b5 perch/spring platforms and the eibach's on the front.

Time to nudge this....

Right then, today im getting to the end of my teather with my coilovers.

Need to wind my rears up approx 5mm one side and a touch more 7-10mm the other.

Had another crack at it this afternoon as it was a banging day and id finished work early but its not happening!!

Basically whats happening is the adjuster collar (green) is turning fine with my c-spanner but the black thread section appears to be turning with it, therefore its not actually altering the height whatsoever! Tried getting an allen key or somthing to hold the black thread in place using a hole at the underneath but nothing was appropriate..

Hopefully you get me by checking these pics..

Anyone who can help out / knows how a rear coil setup should look on a B6 audi A4 please share :(

Getting fed up now.

p.s they are Weitec Hicon Gt's

Now than as you remember from my post's about the problems i had running AP's. You will have to get the correct size Allen Key (i have this) as it's a biggen and slide a bar/tube over it to help, and then just pull/push the C spanner and push/pull the Allen key. I have taken the plunge back into the Coilover sea's but will not have any problem's at the front of the car.. I do feel your pain as my first experience with coilover's also done my head in, does you setup also make weird noises.

Ah was hoping you'd have some input coll :p

Do you know what size allen key is required as if thats all that I need will come in very usefull! I was starting to think id need to drop down the suspension arm and dismantle it all to get it adjusted.

It was totally silent till I took the fronts down further, since then I get the occasional noise but had it all checked and also flew through mot so im putting it down to the coilovers characteristics, may wind the fronts up a touch too but i've had no problems there :)

I'm here to help bruv. I will get the size for you ASAP as my car is in Bridgend (jp board) at the moment and my C spanner's and allen key are in the boot, i will/should be picking the car up on Friday if i can get away from work for an hour or so. I have not gone for front coilover this time, but the front should have a 40-45mm drop.. But i'm dreading parking the car on the drive..

Thats gonna be tight haha, I couldnt go near my driveway even standard!

I have had to have the welder in work fab me up some ramp's. I will give them a test out soon.

The adjuster is on the top on my KW's. The spring mounts on the lower wishbone on the standard rubber mount.

IIRC they were a bit of pig to adjust and best done off the car first or drop the subframe to unload the spring

When I fitted my KW's and I was getting the height right the best way I found was to drop the subframe by loosening the bolts. Then the springs would be unloaded enough to allow the platforms to turn. I used drill bits as guides to get them exactly the same then fine adjusted as needed. Make no mistake they were a PITA!!!

The end result was worth the pain though!!!

Does the CR-V bear any significance? im suuuure i tried a 10mm :p

Thanks dude!

hm. im convinced the key i tried was a 10mm :( if thats the case I may have to go down the road you mentioned bubstar

IIRC the KW platforms have a 6mm hex in the middle but even with the wheels unloaded the spring is under too much tension to turn them.

Dropping the subframe bolts was the only answer for me. They were still lightly loaded and tight after that!

BUB :beerchug:

hm, mine were turning freely just needing something to hold that thread..

was it difficult dropping the subfram bolts bud? id be working off a trolley jack a side at a time..

I Picked up the car late on Saturday and droped it up the father's house so i could work on it today. I adjusted the rear coilovers using this allan key and 'c' spanner.

Looking good Colin!

When are the secretive new wheels expected to make an appearance?
