Pretty soggy day yesterday, so I ended up doing a few errands, and getting things ready for the box swap instead. Moved the car into position, then took a few snaps before running from the rain!
So, after a failled day yesterday, we've had a fairly decent day today!
With good intentions we started stripping the PSF reservoir and header tank out, in order to helicoil the stripped thread in my engine mount. We got to the point where we were ready to drill out the old thread, only to find my drill wont take a 12.4mm drill bit! We gave up, and headed over to a mates to borrow a drill.
Started the day off badly too, I couldn't find the bit for the driveshaft bolts, so we had to head into town to a mates garage to borrow the tool.
With that done, we soon helicoiled the dead engine mount, so started ripping out the box.
I'm perhaps not the fastest worker, so 3 hours later, it was out!
Big hole where it once was! SOOOO oilly down there. I think the turbo feed is leaking under pressure
Knocked up my new shift linkage setup on the floor. Golf AUM shift lever and cables, with a TT short shift module and relay lever on the box end. The new box is an o2J from an ibiza cupra, going onto an AGU engine in the A3.
We found that the pin that allows the relay lever to pivot was a different diameter from the TT part to the ibiza o2J box. ******.
Thought I'd try my luck with an offcut from a G12 bottle, and amazingly, it's given me the most perfect tolerance fitted plastic bearing!
Stripped the exhaust off, and then had to remove the whole heat shield along the tunnel to gain access to the shifter assembly from underneath. What are your thoughts on refitting the heat shields guys? are they really needed?
No pics at this stage, but we whipped it all out, trimmed the tunnel down of various fixings, then set about mounting the new AUM shifter inside the car to get it a bit higher:
Pretty happy with how things have turned out so far.
Also recieved my neuspeed 32mm ARB yesterday, it's HUGE, but being hollow section, not too heavy.
