The bit that moves is called the lock carrier, this can be forward a few inches to allow better access to the timing belt. however its much easier to take the lock out of the way to do the job especially if your doing the water pump. i did the cambelt in my A6 and i swung the lock carrier out to...
If the temperature goes to 50 striaght from start up then it sounds more like a problem with the coolant temperature sensor or the gauge. even with a thermostat stuck closed it will take a few minutes for the coolant to get upto 50C
How exactly. If you only cover short distances then your engine will never warm up properly. A 30 grade oil will have a lower viscosity and will pump/flow easier than a 40 grade oil whilst the engine is warming up. therefore oil flow to areas such as the cam shaft etc will be better with a 30...
Long life oil is specifically for the varaible service plan as if you drive really conservatively the oil change interval can be quite long so you need to use longlife oil.
The 50500 spec looks like it is specifically for diesels on fixed service plan
The 50101 spec oil as you can see from above...
This is what I got from erwin the audi site for the oils for the various engines, this is also what the dealers have but it might be a few years old now. As to Fuchs they own the brand name silkolene and thats all I ever use in my bike and I have no complaints
Engine oils for vehicles

You could get a compression check done on the engine, what mileage is on the engine?
Sounds like the engine is losing compression and is leaking pressure into the crankcase. With the breather hose disconnected this hides the problem. With the hose connected it might be pressurising the rocker...
Golfs right on this. If you can get it out there is a test procedure for this electronic thermostat. I can send it to you if you PM me with an email address
You might want to try a combustion leak test.

If the combustion gases are passing over the gasket this tool detects the gases present. Another way is to see if you getting excessive white smoke (steam) from the exhaust along with...
It's got to do with the lengths of you journey. Modern diesel engines are very thermally efficient and take a long time to come upto the right operating temperature due to the lack of wasted energy in the combustion process. The best way to check is to put you DIS system onto the instantaneous...
Go to the back of the car get down on your knees and see if you can see drive shafts going to the rear wheels from a central differential. if no drive shafts then non quattro
Has your car got ESP. Apparently you need to hook it up to a machine that will cycle the ABS and ESP pumps while bleeding the brakes. That might be a good place to start.
It was 15 years ago engine siezed at 70 on the M6 on the way to Manchester. Managed to get the clutch in before the rear wheel locked up, not a pleasant experience.
After that I started looking into the claims of slick 50 etc and I formed my own opinion.
As for the engine it was still a four...
Had an engine on a kawasaki 250 sieze after application of slick50 due to oil starvation.
It hasn't changed its still a PTFE suspension for addition to engine oil, the only thing thats different is the claims they can now legally make. Have a search on the internet and see what the consenus is...
Don't ever put slick 50 into your engine. it doesn't work and if you don't believe me read the following link. The makers of the product have been sued by the American government over claims it can't back up.

For PTFE to be deposited on metal you need...
Did the oil that they put in meet the correct VAG spec for your engine. Even if other people swear by it if it doesn't meet the VAG 50XXX spec for your engine I'd stay well clear of it. You should be able to see the correct oil spec in your manual.
If you send me a PM I can send you the shematic for your aircon system. Just include the model year engine code. This should help your guy narrow down the switches that could be faulty. Most of the sensors are quick disconnct and don't require the system to be drained.
