Ok I’ve had on the car ever since I got it a cheap cat cost £100 it’s had two in total in 2years as they need replacing each MOT! Also since owning the car the engine management light has been on and I’ve had it cleared about 3 times each time it shows the cat to be problem.
My question is why would a cheap cat cause the engine management light to come on? And what’s good average MPG for a non turbo 1.8? I’m getting 30 but thats never changed even if I do really long motorway miles. I don’t drive like an idiot in fact since having my little lad I’ve become a bit of a Sunday driver . Or should it be better than that? If it should is that down to cheap cat? And how much would a genuine Audi cat cost me? I’ve heared £600 is that right?

depends exactly what the fault code is, but later cars have a second lambda sensor after the cat, so the ECU knows when its not working as it should. What exact code are you getting? The fact your car has a management light suggests its a later model, what year is it?

If i tried really hard i could probably get my old turbo FWD upto around 35mpg. But it required driving like a gran.

It’s a 2000 x reg. it was a while ago the codes were cleared so I can’t remember but I will try and clear again this weekend and see what they are. Yeah it has engine management light but I’m certain it’s only got one lambda. Yeah since having my lad I kinda drive like a granny .

Hi Pro-cookie. Not sure if you're now sorted but I just took my Cat off my 2000 Xreg A4 B5 TQS last night. If you still need it give me a shout.

Yup, just did a wee read back on some of his earlier posts and I’d just noticed this. Sorry Pro-cookie!

Thanks mate but as Aragorn mentioned mine is non turbo so I should imagine it’s completely different. I really appreciate it though mate thanks :thumbs up:

Looking to get new cat and lambda sensor on eBay and when I put car details in it comes up with correct part for vehicle but also important info for part, but I can’t see what the important info is. Does anybody know what it is?

I get that but is it trying to say it’s only for that engine code or it’s not for that engine code? Can’t expand that link on eBay to see what the important info is.

I would say it's for that engine code only. Could email the seller asking for further info.

Or look on oemepc for the correct part number and do some cross referencing?

Yeah tried that but doesn’t recognise the part number. I’ll try leaving a message and see what’s said. Cheers mate.

Hi guys, I’m thinking of a different approach. Does anyone know if an exhaust for a 1.8turbo would fit my 1.8 non turbo AVV engine code? I’m thinking of doing this because it appears I need a new full system as it’s full of holes plus I like the twin pipe exit rather than the oval. Would the cat work on mine as well from a turbo? Or would it throw up engine management light?
Any thoughts are appreciated thanks.

I think you’ll struggle with that approach as your existing none turbo manifold will be very different from the turbo manifold, as the turbo bolts directly to it. The turbo exhaust CAT then sits directly onto the turbo. As for management lights, I’m not too sure about that one. The AEB & AJL engines have the probe before the CAT. What’s yours?

Yeah pretty sure mine is before cat. What about back just the back box would that fit? I just don’t like the back box for the none turbo and other than spend a load on after market there is no option but to get the one for turbo.
