So I'm in drive with my fl s3 and it's cruising along at about 40...but the auto gearbox has already pushed the gears all the way up to 6 or 7.

Surely it should only be hitting those gears at high speeds like motorway work and not normal town driving?

That's normal I'm afraid. TCU map can sort it out.

Other option is dynamic which I feel holds the gears a bit too much for normal driving.

Other option is manual mode on the box

PFL does the same. You can always put the box in dynamic via drive select or pull the lever to engage sport mode which always drops 1 or 2 cogs for the same road speed.

Not sure what the problem is to be honest. The car has obviously worked out it's not labouring so goes in a higher gear thus saving fuel. It's one thing I like about the auto, that it will always go in to higher gears much earlier than I would. :)

This is a "feature" of the DSG box. Not driven an RS3 but all other DSG based cars, regardless of if they are "fast" or not are geared for economy. Only way around this is Dynamic or Manual mode or a DSG tune.

Echo what others have said, I'm quite happy to be in top gear at 40mph. If I want to accelerated the DSG box is quick enough to drop down itself, failing that I'd get on the paddles and change.

Seems silly to drive in 5th of the car could quite comfortably go along in 7th. I know none of us have bought S3's for their economy, but then the idea isn't to drive as uneconomically as we can, as fun as it can be lol

There's nothing I hate more than being in a car with someone in a gear and the car could quite easily cope with a higher gear.. but I am fuel economy trained so it's programmed into me.

Try being in a car with my wife, 4th when she could be in 5th, then round a roundabout in 5th when the car should really be in 3rd. Dunno how many times I need to tell her :unamused::tearsofjoy:
